I'm going to vote for change! |
|
If you do a search on my screen name, you will see that I wrote a thread stating that I would never, ever vote for Hillary under any circumstance, even in the general election. I have never been a big fan of Obama, because he didn’t seem to have anything more than a good speech. So I was comfortable with John Edwards. As I watched the debates and I watched all of the news coverage I started becoming more uncomfortable with him. I could not understand for the life of me why John Edwards would fight the dirty fight for Obama when it seemed that Obama might be his biggest competition. Why not bold and underline how he would be better suited to bring about and make change. But he did not do that, which made him appear very calculating in my eyes and it turned out to be quite a turn off for me.
Now where I am today? I am going to support Hillary. It never really occurred to that I could over look some of the things that made me doubt and dislike her until I watched with my own two eyes, how she was treated. So shabbily by the media, and that is putting it mildly. They were dancing on her grave and enjoying every minute of it. And to this day, they are still doing it. It has reinforced and reminded me that women do have a long way to go to change this in society and I want to be a part of that change. YES I'm going to vote for CHANGE!
Go Hillary!

Hillary is not a bad person. The right wing has smeared her and those negative perceptions have become mainstream.

3. Voting for someone because you feel sorry for them... |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 02:21 PM by Wolsh
instead of agreeing with their stance on the issues (which you obviously do not do) is pretty backwards logic. It turns politics into a sport instead of a fight for the direction of the country.
Its your vote, by all means, do what you want to with it, but I wouldn't be proud to cast a sympathy vote.

5. I don't feel sorry for her. Men have run this country long enough. I want a real change! |

On edit:
That was sarcastic, Hillary is not a bad person. I have often found her to be political triangulator and who isn't. Barack may even be worse, with his present votes to keep himself from being on record.
Atleast she had the guts to vote some way in the Kyl Lieberman bill, your guy didn't think it important enough, or did he not want to be saddled with voting one way or another.

Something made you not want to vote for her before. Now you feel sorry for her, and she gets your vote.

9. Some people know what the Clintons represent |
|
Outsourcing of jobs. Continued global oil wars. Phony tax credits masquerading as social benefits. Clinton is the first one who mentioned privatizing social security, does everybody just forget that? All the racist garbage coming from her campaign?
And you're going to vote for her because Obama said she "was likeable enough" and Edwards called her "status quo"???
God this country is pathetic.

Voting FOR someone just because they're female or black is just as bad as voting AGAINST them because they're female or black.
We need THE BEST PERSON for the job. Regardless of race, religion, gender, good hair/bad hair, crooked teeth/straight teeth, or whatever.
If you think the media has treated Hillary poorly, you must be outraged over their lack of Edwards coverage. He was #2 in Iowa, in spite of being outspent by a huge margin...and we heard: nothing about it.
You really need to question WHY Edwards is being censored. What are they afraid of? Obama's supporters will be happy to tell you how much money is pouring in to his campaign. That should be a red flag. We don't want money electing our next President. Money alone does not a good President make. And Barack has too many red flags waving around him.
I will vote for Hillary if I can't vote for Edwards, but I won't be happy doing it, because I know the only thing Hillary is going to change is the rug on the floor of the Oval Office. Other than that, it will be business as usual in Washington, D.C. :(
Edit to add: Yes, Hillary Clinton will be miles better than George Bush could have ever hoped to be. So yes, Hillary will be a huge improvement, but I fear we're running out of time to really bring back the greatness that America was once respected around the world for.

I am on the same page as you Andy. If Edwards leaves the race we have zero chance for REAL change. Like you, I will vote Hillary over Obama but I sure won't be happy about it.

11. Good for you, we all have to make our own judgements. |
|
Being a woman and understanding sexism and have enough empathy and years behind me to understand racism (I'm from MA, we've at least evolved enough to have a black man as governor), I still understand that the republicans want a candidate they can chew up and spit out (translate beat), hate alone in this country has been magnified and encouraged thanks to the republican fear and smear tactics and weapons of mass deception.
It's because of all of these things that I will continue to support Edwards. There's no calculating sneakiness behind his message or his support of a fellow dem who also embodies change. He's a democrat and he's the people's candidate, he represents change to max and knows how to achieve it & TELLS us how. His message is clear and has always been clear, we don't need more status quo. We don't need to continue the Bush, nor Clinton dynasties.
Obama's message is clear too, we need to embrace everyone and realize we can be better, but it's still lacking the substance and the method, so I'm guessing the ability to effect that change, I'd like to see him win the VP spot and I've no doubt he's the future once we deal with the present.
Say what you will, see what you will, but Edwards is about change, and he embodies it for the middle class and the poor and all Americans who care enough about putting an end to all that ails America, the biggest factor is our power that has been handed over to big corporate and corrupt entities. He's not anti-business, he's pro-America and honest business. Once you "get" that, the choice is easy.
All I know is that Clinton is part of the machine, all you have to do is read Chris Floyd's recent article in the Sunday Times to realize that. Bill Clinton and Bush Sr. had the same backers, and that's why we are stuck in STATUS QUO, and status quo is our ENEMY.

24. "All I know is that Clinton is part of the machine ..." |
|
I've been hearing that for a decade and a half, and nobody has yet made a convincing case that Hillary is any more a machine politician than any of the front-runners today or in most elections over the past century. I don't think I've seen an article critical of HRC that isn't simply a re-hash of decades-old Republican talking points -- or the ritual invocation of the word Corporate, which is the hipsters' favorite term of abuse when they dislike a candidate but have no substantial case to make. And the equation that Hillary = Bill mocks our commitment to women's rights by assuming that Hillary is merely Bill's sock puppet -- especially when she has her own legislative history which too many of us choose to ignore, or read filtered through one reporter with a grudge or another.
This is not a useful or healthy way to size up a candidate -- any of them. From my point of view, we have three excellent front-runners. The Obama supporters should realize that the Get-Hillary rhetoric will be used against their own favorite if Obama is our choice of a presidential candidate; not only will the Freepers get their slime machine revved up, but the self-described radicals will also try their best to whack Obama with the "corporate" stick.
Because Edwards is currently running third, he attracts very little scrutiny, but we should all be more careful not to let ANY of our favorites slide. No matter who wins this time, there are several excellent leaders in the Democratic Party who will have future opportunities to run for office.
What IS needed, no matter who we individually support, is a dialog about the strengths and weaknesses of all our candidates, and how we plan to deal with them. Repetition of the same old cliches -- now mainly about HRC -- is a way of sticking our collective head in the sand and inviting the GOP to kick our exposed butt. At this point in the campaign, we need better analysis and less high-temperature speechifying. The recent crazy talk here does not make me hopeful.
But, as someone recently said, there is audacity in hope. Right?

15. Funny how the "help" Edwards gave Obama benefited |
|
Hillary (and her team playing the gender, sympathy card) more than it did Obama. (Can you say Clinton VP).
Does anyone really think Bill Clinton was just rambling with I can't make her a male, I can't make her tall, I can't make her younger?
Based on what we've seen to date, does anyone really think the gender/age/sympathy/race cards played by the Clinton campaign haven't been part of the overall campaign strategy from the get go?
The talking heads have talked about how they talk to Clinton insiders. Funny how a lot of the stuff the talking heads have espoused have helped Clinton more than hurt her (not that it would take a genius to manipulate the talking heads). So what if they talked about how Clinton was disrespecting his wife (based on history, that's only served to help Hillary).
We've heard how the Clinton's have a "long memory," so I find it hard to believe that the Murdoch press would print such unflattering articles before they were sure that the Clintons were history. Isn't it funny how that Murdoch press worked to Hillary's benefit?

25. It is pretty amazing that a month ago the popular opinion here |
|
seemed to be was that Hillary was being forced down our throats by the MSM as the inevitable candidate. Passions seemed to be quite high that our nomination decision was being made for us by the "establishment."
It very interesting that such passionate opinions can change relatively quickly. I suppose it is partly due to the unfolding of the primaries and caucuses and what that reveals and partly that passionate opinions can flip fairly quickly (the thin line between love and hate, I guess). ;)

Any of the Democratic front runners will be a change for the good.
I'm leaning to Hillary right now, but I still have a few weeks until I have to make a final decision. I'll look long and hard at the issues and how the candidates promote them.

I feel we are the only country who feels a woman cannot govern. The press has treated her terribly, I feel they think they have the power to make the choice, lets show them we woman as a collective force can make a huge change in this country and the world! If we don't it will never happen for us!
