Was Tweety right? Is the "establishment" in "destroy" mode? |
|
When almost everyone thought Obama was going to win NH and Hillary was "on the ropes"...Tweety said something that really troubles me. He said that the Clinton machine and democratic party "powers that be"/establishment would go out of their way to destroy the "idealistic candidate." His point was that when an "idealistic" campaign of "hope" and "vision" arises, that it is often doomed. In his view of political history, the "establishment" always wins.
All the attacks on Obama from Bill, the surrogates, and even Hillary herself have sought to tear him down rather than build Hillary up. Instead of promoting Hillary and her positions--all I hear now is how Obama is two-faced and deceitful on almost every issue.
The lawsuit in Nevada, the Clinton surrogates in Michigan like Debbie Stabenow whining it would be "unfair" to penalize Hillary for remaining on the ballot by voting "uncommitted", the "racial" issue insinuations, the wretched Kerry bashing after his endorsement.....
Things are getting dirty real fast--and Obama is getting kicked around a lot more than Hillary is being promoted. Tweety is right--Hillary, the Clinton machine, and her supporters in the "establishment" are in seek and destroy mode. Even when Hillary was supposedly "down", I never saw Obama go negative...
And we're all supposed to "kiss and make up" and fall into line behind the establishment nominee after the dirty work is done. And we usually do. Because of the lesser of evils arguments. We'll vote our fears rather than our hopes--as usual.

1. This is how the Clinton operate and always have... |
|
this is just the first time people are seeing it done against a fellow Democrat. It's disgusting and disgraceful how much people will do for power.

2. The door swings the other way too |

I agree with much of what you say, but Obama has plenty of establishmentarians supporting him too, even if it's not as many as Hillary.
And yes, when the primaries are over, I expect everyone to fall into line and support the nominee, just as the other side will do.

3. Matthews has lost his marbles. If you watched MSNBC's... |

...Iowa and NH coverage, it would be clear to you. Maybe they are threatening to cancel his show, maybe his health problems have caught up with him...I don't know. But he seems to be way out of whack from his usual self.

4. Even crazy people can speak the truth.... |

Obama and Edwards are good democratic candidates that we can all be proud of. Until they start winning that is.. Then instead of debating issues and promoting oneself--it's time to destroy the other guys and suppress the vote (Nevada).
