Having belated realized how utterly disenfranchised I am.... |
|
and swallowing a mound of humble pie as a result, I beg those of you who have a potential to make a difference. Please stop tearing one another apart. Surely the dirt that makes a difference has been unearthed and nothing else need be said. Trust me, you are beating a dead horse. Anything negative that can be said about Clinton, Obama and Edwards has been said before and said ad nauseum.
Vote your conscience and give the rest of us the best we can hope for.
I'm sitting here in tears with the realization that my vote in the primary isn't just too late this time, but absolutely and totally meaningless. There is no reason whatsoever for me to go to the polls in the primary season for the first time in my adult life because there are no competitive local or state races. I will see an election day come and go without pulling a lever, punching a hole or marking in a circle. This is inconceivable to me.
So for the love of everything democratic, focus on what your candidate can give those of us who don't mean a damn thing to anyone and cease this mean spirited shredding of political opponents in the same party. It really doesn't make a difference anymore. It just doesn't.

I'm seeing reports from Florida now that Florida may regain their delegates at the convention. Read these: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/florida/story/377502.htmlhttp://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/011308/met_236203895.shtmlYes, it is an extremely frustrating and unfair situation, but you can still do something.

I've never once lived in a state that made one whit of difference. Our primary system sucks big time and I've been saying that for eons.
But that's not really the point. The point is that the bickering is not only counterproductive at this point, it is utterly meaningless. Especially for ALL of us whose state primaries mean diddly squat.

5. Oh, I thought you were talking about Michigan... |
|
...did all the candidates pull out of Florida too?
Oh well, look at the bright side, at least you know your vote this year is meaningless, that's more than can be said about the last THREE "elections" here in Georgia where everyone thinks they are voting, yet every election since 2002 has been "fixed" by the Diebold Corporation, rigging the count to whatever way they see fit, but most people here won't admit to it.
Everytime I go to "vote" here it just feels more and more cold and empty, like sleeping with the dead corpse of Democracy that once was the "Great State of Georgia."

13. I'm so sorry...I'm a Georgian in "exile" in Mississippi |
|
when I left in 1998, Georgia was the most progressive state in the south and the most Democratic state in the union. Now it's just east Alabama, on its way to the bottom of the heap. I have watched in horror as my beloved Georgia crashed and burned. I kept some land "back home," and now I'm thinking about selling it and retiring to a warmer climate. :pals:

8. take heart; your vote in the general election matters far more |
|
since all of our four remaining candidates are much better than any of theirs.
And, being in FL, thanks to our antiquated and unfair electoral college system, your vote matters more than those in the majority of the country who live in non-swing states. Not good for those voters, but it makes your vote that much more important.

11. As you can see by my avatar...I'm right there with you. |
|
The only consolation I can offer you is that, at least our swing state status means that our votes really mean something in the general election.
Go and vote. If you don't want to vote for a candidate, maybe you could just pencil in "Democracy".

12. hear, hear! I recoil at opening 60% of the threads here - on either candidate |
|
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 11:10 PM by robbedvoter
Ultimately, mine is an issues choice rather than a candidate one. I am talking primaries, of course. Therefore, i am trying to stay away from most attack threads. And, while unlike 2004, my state primary may actually have a play, I totally agree with you - primaries should all take place the same day. All our votes should be equal in their importance.

15. Please go vote anyway, especially for the state and local races. |
|
Even if they "aren't competitive", your vote tells the other side that you exist. If you don't like the candidates on the ballot, find someone to write in.
I'm sorry your prez primary won't count... mine probably won't matter either. (PA, April 22.)

I'm in fl.no reason to switch over from indy to dem for the primaries, I'll still vote and hope for a progressive candidate to run on an indy ticket for 08.

Than Edwards seemed a better chance for success but after NH I can't believe the aipac war candidates won in both parties which leads me to believe a fix is in.
