Obama Precinct Capt. Urges GOPers to Caucus Dem to Stop HIllary

An Obama precinct captain in Nevada has circulated a flyer that urges Republicans (and independents) to become Democrats just for a day in order to stop Hillary.

The flyer is likely to be controversial, because it's playing on Republican dislike of Hillary to get GOP voters to affect the outcome of the Democratic caucuses.

"Republicans, Independents, Everyone," the flyer reads. "You can make the difference if you think a Democrat will win in November and you don't want Hillary...You can come to the Democratic caucus and vote for Obama."

Though precinct captains are volunteers, they are designated as such by the campaigns. And while this flyer isn't the official work of the Obama campaign, in this race campaigns have been held liable for the actions of such volunteers. When a Hillary county coordinator forwarded a copy of the Obama Muslim smear email, it became national news for days, leading to her resignation.

25. This person is like a hockey puck....
...in a room full of apples.

He is an aberration that does not reflect the Obama campaign.

This is not how the campaign was run and this is not the spirit
of the campaign, at all.

You cannot pin this on the "Obama camp". This was one person
who was told to stop.

I bet the "Obama camp" is sick about this.

17. It's funny....
when ANYONE connected to the Clinton campaign does anything iffy, so many will insist that the marching orders came from on high, and of COURSE the campaign was aware beforehand and sanctioned the misdeeds...

but this? Oh that was just one person... the Obama campaign had nothing to do with it... and hey, maybe Clinton did THIS, TOO!

Right on...
so the Obama campaign tells them to stop and that means it was no big deal, Obama is squeaky clean. When Clinton tells them to stop it still remains a big deal and it was all Hillary's fault and she was behind it.

6. Flyer Flap Fizzles Fast

Flyer Flap Fizzles Fast

Obama Reno precinct captain repudiated by national campaign for distributing flyers that told Republicans, Independents to caucus for Obama because Clinton “voted for the war when it was popular, because she has taken money from the special interest groups, because her nomination will continue to polarize the country.” See full flyers here.

Obama spokesman Burton: “We’ve learned that one individual who volunteers for the campaign was making the flyer and we’ve instructed him to stop creating and distributing it. But make no mistake, we want as many independents and Republicans to become Democrats and help to build a new governing majority in this country.”

was not Hillary held to task for comments and actions from even volunteers in her campaign for things not sanctioned by the campaign? We all know the answer is yes.

there is not one set of rules for Hillary, and another for everyone else, despite the level of whining.

21. I was an Obama precinct captain...
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 06:01 PM by TwoSparkles
...and the person who did this is very irresponsible.

Precinct captains act on their own volition. There are thousands of them in each
state.

It's too bad this person did this.

This was not cool at all.

I was constantly told by the Obama campaign to be respectful and courteous of others
supporting other candidates. The Obama people never said anything bad about the other
candidates. Ever.

I told Barack Obama that I was undecided and was leaning toward Edwards, he had nothing
but glowing, wonderful things to say about Edwards.

I can assure you that if anyone in the Obama camp knew that this precinct captain was someone who would
do this, they would have never been asked to be involved with the campaign in the first place.

Based on everything I've seen in the campaign--and I know it's only a little slice--this is not someone
who represents the spirit of the Obama campaign.

45. No, it's YOU who sees what you want to see...
It's one thing to respond to your political opponent. It's one
thing to disagree with your political opponent or point out
differences.

That's what Obama is doing in the video.

It's another thing to advocate dirty tricks. I don't care about
your completely ill-informed negativity. You weren't there.
You didn't meet the people that I did. You weren't trained to
be an Obama precinct captain.

I was specifically told to be gracious and respectful at all times.

The entire emphasis was on being positive for Obama and avoiding
negativity toward other candidates. This was a top-down directive.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

and above board.

Of course, I've never heard that Clinton's campaign doesn't encourage the same behavior as Obama's.

I think most of these people are loose cannons, doing what they think is best for their candidate, smarmy though it may be.

Edit to clarify my Clinton statement.
