6. Nope
because it would be abused by people who disagree with you, or have a feud with you, and used to bully people. Like on daily kos.

9. Yes.. but not in this case .. LOL
I often hang out on Craigs list world politics forum, which does have such an option, and get frustrated sometimes at DU
for lack of it... thanx for giving voice to my frustration..

disclaimer: it isn't too often here that I'd even use it, but it would definitely come in handy occasionally.

11. You would need a list of people whose judgment you trust.
The opposite of a recommend from someone not on your list should have -- from your point of view -- no effect.

It's so easy. I've seen 2 year olds navigate it.

14. It's actually much simpler than that. It's tempting to disagree with someone....
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 07:58 PM by Flabbergasted
but more advantageous to let many threads drop like a stone. The only thing that makes the issue is pushing against it. Some people can't keep their knee jerk reaction from kicking really lousy threads.

It's exactly with Munster, for example, wants. He doesn't care if you insult him.

19. I agree with you about letting threads drop like a stone.
Everytime we post something to argue back against the flame bait we end up kicking it.

I have started to just use that little boxed x button next to the thread title ......and use it again......and again......and again.....

You get the point - it lets the thread go to lala land where it probably belongs.

Frenchie is with me on this and we don't even support the same candidate.

20. Oh, GAWD yes!!
Great idea! Not "Discard" though, because some people would "discard" anything they don't happen to agree with. But a ratings system? Cool.

27. Yes. I'd like to be able to unrecommend
If a thread had 5 votes and I unrecommended it, it would go back to 4 and someone else would have to recommend before it went to the greatest page. It would only go to the greatest page if a preponderance of people like it.

31. I like that idea.

It seems that no matter *how* stupid a thread is, if it is anti-candidate enough it gets like 9 Recs from the rabid fraction of the opposing camp and ends up on the Greatest Page.

Meanwhile, 400 people think it totally sucks.
