Which candidate will work best with Congress to push through their agenda? |
|
This is a real concern. In 1976, when Jimmy Carter ran, I posed this question to candidates during a radio debate (My 15 seconds of fame). They told me that since they were all Democrats, they would all get along. Anyone who was politically aware during the Carter Administration realizes this was not the case; Carter had a lot of trouble with Congress critters of his own party.
Let's assume that the Dems sweep the election, with comfortable majorities in the House and Senate, and of course, a good Dem sitting in the White House. Which nominee will be most effective in getting the Dems in Congress to pass their agenda? Would a comfortable majority of Dems be easier to work with than a razor thin majority? What influence will lobbyists and special interests and the MSM have?

3. Whichever one has the longest coattails |

Obama has a chance of having them. Hillary could win a closer election, but she probably wouldn't have very long coattails. And it's a little fuzzy what kind of Democratic turnout Edwards would inspire.

Edwards would be most anti-corporate and anti-wealthy, so would have the most conflict with GOP and some Dems.
HRC might do fine if she's pushing an agenda that the GOP likes; might not if she's pushing a more progressive agenda.
So, I don't know.

5. The 110th congress has been known for doing whatever the |

president wants. Hopefully if we get someone like Edwards, they will continue with their same cooperation.
