A pleasing scenario
If Obama gains the nomination, Hillary would be a terrible VP for him, and would not be considered.

But if Clinton gains the nomination (which I realize is anathema to many, but the key word is "if"), I would be delighted if she considered Barack for VP. She would not *want* to do that, all things being equal, because she would fear that he would undercut her presidency... kind of like RFK's 1964-1968 position vis-a-vis LBJ.

And a Clinton/Obama ticket would risk multiplying their negatives. Both of them start a campaign with different handicaps.

But I would like it if--assuming Hillary won the nomination--there was a Clinton/Obama ticket organized around challenging the country to vote. Massive registration of single women, young folks, AA, latinos, etc... all the people such a ticket would speak to.

Between the young in Iowa and women in New Hampshire we have already seen the broad outlines of what is possible.

1. I think it would be better to have someone
who is from a different part of the country and who has not been on center stage as much--a sort of "dark horse" who could come out as an attack dog against the GOP.

2. In that scenario, Hillary wouldn't need an attack dog
Being a woman running against a white male asshole (we don't know who the pugs will pick, but he'll fit that profile), she would be able get away with attacks like we've never seen. And she's up to the task.

Barack has remarkable skills that could transcend the usual electoral role of a VP, so I consider him a special case. I would envision Barack doing movement building, rather than the usual VP role of campaign surrogate. Essentially, just continue his campaign, though with a broader objective.

They really are both incomplete candidates, yet each has precisely what the other lacks.

6. I could see Richardson as a potential VP
He's got executive experience (which is lacking in our front-runners), he's Latino, and he's also from a different part of the country as Hillary.

I could see a lot of potential w/ a Clinton/Richardson ticket, actually (even though I'm not a fan of Hillary's).

They actually tried in 04.

10. No kidding? I did not know that
Does it have anything to do with his private life, by any chance?

At my precinct caucus in '04 there were a couple in my Kucinich subcaucus who had just moved into my 'hood from NM. They told me a bit about some of Richardson's carryings-on that might have made him a little, ah, "questionable".

Unfortunately I've moved since then so I won't be able to pick their brains about it any further.

Hmmm...... interesting! :D

12. Yep my friend, he's shot himself in the foot.
I got it on background. I think the only reason it was not out there, is because he was never a serious threat.

It's a shame, because I like Bill Richardson a lot. It's also a shame, imo, that our country can't just grown up about stuff like that.

13. Damn. I should've guessed.
I think he was/is a good candidate, and has a wealth of experience-- both executive and legislative, which is what all our candidates need a bit more of, IMHO.

At least he's got a fairly safe seat as governor of NM. He's a good guy... that's too bad. :(

Thanks for the tip

9. Clinton and Obama on the same ticket is so far from reality
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 10:23 PM by horseface
They are worlds apart and she would fear that he would upstage her at every corner, which he would.

And if hes the nominee she would not fit the bill for a VP for him.

I would honestly be more shocked if there was a Hill-Bama ticket than I would if Ron Paul won the Presidency.

Or Chris Dodd even.

17. Sorry dude, this was the best I could do as a feel-good harmony thread
I am assuming that if in my *hypothetical* of a Clinton nomination, that you would prefer that Barack get the VP nod.
