Guess which "John-Johns" were MIA in the Senate? |
|
Kerry and Edwards say that they are FOR the American workers, and support those who are out of work because of the Bush Depression. Thursday's Senate vote (motion) to extend unemplyment benefits to out of work Americans failed by TWO votes. Need to guess whose missing two votes defeated the motion? Vote Summary Question: On the Motion (Motion To Waive CBA Cantwell Amdt. No. 2617 ) Vote Number: 18 Vote Date: February 26, 2004, 04:06 PM Required For Majority: 3/5 Vote Result: Motion Rejected Amendment Number: S.Amdt. 2617 to S. 1805 (Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act ) Statement of Purpose: To extend and expand the Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation Act of 2002, and for other purposes.
Not Voting - 3 Campbell (R-CO) Edwards (D-NC) Kerry (D-MA)
This was buried deep within a NY Times article about the gun bill. (!??!) Democrats put this amendment (a vote to attach a benefits extension as a rider) into a bill that Republicans were determined to pass, exempting gun manufacturers from liability. 11 Republicans voted in favor of the amendment and if the "John-Johns" had been there, Americans whose unemployment benefits were running out would have been given an additional 6 months benefits. But both pseudo populists were too busy campaigning - trying to gain power - that they left the unemployed hanging out to dry. This is only one example of both these candidates being MIA in the Senate; Edwards has missed about a third of his votes this past year alone and Kerry over half. How many close votes were lost on important issues because these guys didn't vote? And when they did bother to show up, most of their votes were in support of just about everything on BushCo's and the GOP-controlled Congress' wishlist!
Maybe we should all send Kerry & Edwards a Hallmark thank-you card from jobless Americans.
Better yet, let's just send them our "Dear John-John" message by voting for the only true-blue populist, Dennis Kucinich, in the Super Tuesday primaries (if your state hasn't already had its primary).
We don't WANT any Bush-lite replacements!

1. You may not want a bushlite but that's what you got per Terry |
|
McAwful and DLC he is a 48 state loser and hasn't earned his pay as a senator so why reward him with a new job he won't do. If their pre selected loser were to win he would just go along with everything the rethugans want anyway.

Do you really think that the Dems can pass UE without GOP leadership support?

It's a PRO-KUCINICH post. He is still in the primaries, the last I heard.
But I'll vote for a baloney sandwich if it might knock the little prince off his porcelain throne... LOL

14. kucinich has a 100% voting record |

how refreshing, an elected official who actually tries instead of tucking his tail between his legs, running over and laying on master's feet. i think the orig. post is relevant, dem. party blinder fit to snug sometimes. if we don't police our own we will never get anything positive accomplished. ultimately that is what it is all about.

if i am wrong, then i apologize. i think my point still stands. dk is trying to help working people. if kerry and edwards missed the recent vote on the extension of unemployment benefits that is counter productive, and should be addressed.

7. What you neglected to mention - perhaps because you didn't know |
|
nine of the Republicans - including Dole, Voinovich, DeWine - have consistently voted against this measure but miraculously voted yes this time. Why do you think that is? Certainly, it's not because they've changed their minds.
No, they did it in order to sucker Democrats like you into eating our own. Republicans have no intention of letting this measure pass. But their leadership counted heads - something they're very good at - and knew that if these Republicans switched over and voted yes, they could still make sure the measure failed but that Kerry and Edwards would get blamed for it, since some Democrats don't know enough about the issue to understand the history and procedure involved.
And you fell for it. That's too bad.

11. Maybe I've changed my mind... |

about Democrats behaving more courteously in their rebuttals than flaming freepers. Your tone and choice of words was most insulting and without warrant, Mr. Know-It-All. I know that I may not have an "insider's" view about all the machinations of wheeling and dealing in the government process, but I could have been enlightened by a more gentle offer of information (or opinion) than being slammed with a 2x4 by an ardent Edwards fan.
Thanks so much for your very civil approach to another Bush-loathing Democrat.
Maybe I'll change my mind again about voting for a baloney sandwich rather than Bush. Because if Edwards gets the nomination, I don't believe America will change at all, and I may join the millions of other non-voters who believe the election process in this country is just a hoax and a scam run by the same old powers elite. I would rather not keep on supporting the corruption that has almost completely stolen America from ordinary people.
In any case, please do not equate me with a "suckered" Democrat. I can recognize who's really being suckered on these DU message boards.

"Edwards has missed about a third of his votes this past year alone and Kerry over half."
What the hell are you people whining about. This is a FACT. It doesn't take a freeper to point out a fact, Get over your protectionism. Kerry ABSTAINED from Bush's bullshit tax cut vote. Enough reason for me to vote against him in the primary, at least. Kerry and Edwards BOTH voted for the war, and the Patriot Act. Might as well draft McCain...He's ABB too.
I'll vote against whomever gets the democratic nomination, but the Johns are both spineless IMO (not evil like *, but...) After the convention, I'll be reading the generals, but only posting in the lounge, and raising havoc on FR, until I get banned there Heh.

There are several responses that have tried to clue folks in but the zeal to tear at Kerry is too palatable for some. This is a canard.

Is the keyword when trying to figure out the legislative process. Saving one's own ass, and making sure one remains electable. Evidently NOT standing up for what is right.
Poluticians.

This is FACT. No belief or disbelief about it.
