Ron Paul's second place is great in one way--it shows GOP voter solidarity is lost and diffuse

As does the volatile and radically shifting rankings from each primary state thus far--they lack a unifying voice this year, they are painfully searching for a consolidating idea of what their party stands for, and they will not therefore all be happy with the eventual nominee. This is all very good.

1. It's amazing - from what I can tell, the Rep primary is Mormons vs. Evangelicals

Neither of whom will mean much as a voting bloc in the general election.

Edit: typo

2. I wouldn't give it that much credence.
Yes, he finished in his best showing, but he was one of only two republicans who campaigned there. The tv keeps saying he came in second because Nevada is a Libertarian state, but I disagree; he came in second because he actually put face time and money in the state. If he hadn't, I think he would have garnered his usual 6-10%.

I will say however, that this is beneficial, as it most likely guarantees he goes on to convention (even though I have no doubt that he will based on his fundraising).

3. True enough. But he wouldn't have had the chance in 2000, for example
The GOP GE strategy is about money and influence all lining up behind a single candidate as early as possible, and aggressively marketing that choice as representative of all conservative groups. This extended competition and resultant competing claims for that representation thoroughly undermines that strategy, and will make GOP voters more and more confused about who truly represents their party.

6. Oh, I don't disagree on that one bit
I was just pointing out that Ron Paul won because he was one of only 2 Repubs who campaigned there. Given that, he actually did poorly.

However, I enjoy the fact this will give him and his supporters more of a boost to make sure they keep on keeping on.

4. You're right.
It's part of the upcoming demise of the present GOP. Not a bad thing at all. You want to see some sniveling, look in on the pissing and moaning
going on in FreepLand right now.
