Two new polls have Romney ahead of McCain in FL--what will this mean for the pundits |
|
who so want Saint McCain as the nominee?
Rasmussen has Romney up by 27-23 and Mason/Dixon has him up 30-26. It's a closed primary so McCain can't benefit from independents. Also, it's a winner take all primary on the GOP side for delegates. My thinking is if Mitt takes Florida he has a very good shot at being their nominee.
According to Rasmussen in Georgia (one of the Super Tue contests) Hucklebee has a 15-point edge and he will probably do well in Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas that day too.
I can see a Romney/Hucklebee ticket. Why? McCain will never run with Romney, and as a Mormon Romney might think he needs help with the fundies who are Huck's base.
But Rudy will definitely be gone after Florida--and endorse McCain, but I don't think it will do McCain all that much good.

2. Good question. It's really getting weird over there on the GOP side. |
|
I mean weirder than usual, and their usual is already plenty weird.
It's getting into the Twilight Zone realm at this point.

4. Will be rooting for Slick Mitt to derail the Straight Shooter |
|
Express in this one. Although I do whipsaw back and forth who would be the weaker GE candidate. I do believe that Giuliani has simply failed and cannot win the nomination. Likewise the Huckster is dead as a dodo as his money runs out and the powers that be in the party would NEVER let him get to the nomination.
It's down to Mittens and Shooter IMO
Mittens has money and organization but it not well liked or likeable. His past positions on hot button fundie issues will haunt him badly
Shooter is old and decrepit, this year's Bob Dole perhaps. While he has the fawning admiration of the MSM in toto, he is also crazy in kind of a bad way and has pinned his star to success in Iraq. His past positions on hot button rw issues will haunt him badly

5. Huckabee wouldn't be Romney's running mate. |
|
I can't see him doing that. With a Mormon? No.
