Clinton Says She Must Counterattack
Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday she must respond in kind to attacks from rival Barack Obama even though she'd rather keep the race for the Democratic presidential nomination focused on their differences on public policy issues.

"I try not to attack first, but I have to defend myself — I do have to counterpunch," Clinton told NBC's "Today Show."

"I took a lot of incoming fire for many, many months and I was happy to absorb it because obviously, you know, I felt that was part of my responsibility. But toward the end of a campaign you have to set the record straight," the New York senator said.

Clinton, Obama and their campaigns have exchanged increasingly hard-hitting jabs in recent days over race, his relationship with a Chicago developer, her vote on the Iraq war, and other issues. Clinton stopped airing a South Carolina radio ad critical of Obama on Thursday and Obama took down his radio response in an attempt to cool the angry public spat.

6. Politics is better when it is like this. We are not voting for HS Home coming King/Queen
What is wrong with a fight? We can beat the GOP on principle and more, but we need Democrats and others to stop whining when their favorite candidate loses a primary.

Primaries are about infighting.

39. As long as one's dealing in facts, fine...
it's when it comes to out and out lies and applying the GOP's "southern strategy" that I call foul.

As for November, the GOP will spend enough time destroying each other, and the current polls don't give any of them a chance in November (except possibly McCain, but 2 words should be enough to pop his balloon ... "Keating 5").

If we're going to win this thing, I'd like to win it with an actual progressive. Hillary, IMHO, is the LEAST progressive of any of the Dems that ran this year.

23. You seem to know a hard, tough campaiging Obama who will do anything to win.
Many supporters of other candidates here seem to believe just the opposite - that Obama is not a tough enough campaigner to survive against the repub smear machine. If what you say is true, perhaps there is hope for Obama in the GE.

I do hate it when he plays rough with the Clintons, who are well known for their preference for cerebral campaigning on issues and avoiding, at all costs, any hint of hardball politics.

Obama will get my vote if he wins the primary, but I would fall for him if he would stand up and act like a man and not a packaged weenie with a message of "words"

Change will happen with whoever wins.

Reality bites. Bush has a very good political team. He beat the press and the Dem party and the felt and he made being against the continued war in Iraq a test of patriotism.

Bush beat us...twice. Who cares how..he won and he got to lead/rule.

Wake up. Vote a Dem into the White House in 2008.

No Hillary- you DON'T have to respond "in kind"- If she doesn't know this- I hope she never takes the office of president.

We need a leader who LEADS not one who does something they KNOW is wrong, and then tries to excuse themself by pointing to their opponent and saying "they made me do it".
