"If we'd had a grown-up in the WH," Edwards on Stimulus Deal
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards, continuing his effort to make this week's presidential primary a three-way contest, on Thursday said President Bush waited too long to offer an economic stimulus package.

"If we had a grown-up in the White House ... 30 days ago we'd have been doing something about this economic downturn," the former North Carolina senator told about 200 people at a Spartanburg restaurant. "We'd already be on the edge of creating new jobs."

Edwards has consistently trailed Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama in polls taken here before Saturday's primary. He's now struggling to make himself heard above what's become a tense campaign between the front-runners that's increasingly framed by race. Nearly half of South Carolina's primary voters in 2004 were black and their vote is considered critical.

Edwards is hoping to gain ground with a focus on working-class families and earlier this week said the country was in a recession while pressing his economic plan. The South Carolina native said he would offer this state's struggling economy at least $1.5 billion in relief and extend benefits to 9,000 long-term unemployed workers. Income limits and administration of the program would be left to states, Edwards' campaign said.

9. Don't hold my breath on what?
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 01:26 PM by bobbolink
Your meaning is unclear.

I said I'm not getting ANYTHING from this "rebate" shit, so why would I be holding my breath on that?

If you're referring to Edwards, he's the ONLY ONE who DOES give a rip, and would improve my living situation.

The rest of the party, including DU "progressives" don't give a shit, which I've said many times.

10. why anyone questions his populist message is beyond me
this package is bullshit unless the unemployed and disabled are also helped out in some way. For the life of me I don't understand why anyone thinks this will do any good as it is.
