In 1992 Harkin got 77% of the vote in Iowa
which is pretty impressive. But he was still in the race then and hadn't suspended his campaign. If the MSNBC numbers are for real Dean got 63% after suspending his campaign. By any rational measure Dean will have done well.

2. I lived in Florida and was looking forward to vote for Harkin
but he quit just a day or two before that Super Tuesday. Voted for Tsongas (not sure about the spelling, now, please don't shoot), instead.

6. actually I think the primary was in march
I think just after Super Tuesday... big primary day .. Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois.

Tsongas was going going to decide whether or not to stay in the race depending on how he did in those three races.

Brown came on strong in Michigan.

I voted for Tsongas, and he left the race after that election day.

7. No we moved our primary after 92
because we were tired of voting so late.

10. Just checked

the Michigan primary (that was with three other industrial midwest states) was March 17, 1992. I thought Ohio was the third state. Tsongas left the race within the next two days... but it appears there were only two races that day. my bad.

5. congrats!
I was 12 but I remember how sad when he (Harkin) dropped. I actually thought maybe we'd get a President from Iowa. I guess we'll have to wait. A real long time I bet.
