Politico's Ben Smith: Full-Court Press on Teddy
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 11:59 AM by flpoljunkie
Full-court press on Teddy

Teddy Kennedy is one of the big outstanding endorsements, and I haven't gotten any word from his camp on what he plans to do.

I do know, however, that Hillaryland is worried: Two sources say she's directed a flood of calls the senator's way, with everyone from union leaders to his Massachusetts constituents scrambling to stop what Clinton's camp is worried could be an endorsement of Obama.

1. A flood of calls? Yea, that'll convince him. I'm no politico, but even I
know that must be annoying. Teddy knows what he's going to do. I suspect the Clintons do also.

2. While I am a big Kennedy fan
many view him as too "liberal" and perhaps his endorsement is not necessarily a plus. Maybe he knows that.

8. Oh, it is a MASSIVE endorsement in a Democratic primary
You have a valid point, but in a primary, Kennedy is a huge figure to have on your side.

I well remember his extraordinary rallies for John Kerry back in 2004. Certainly he helped convince an awful lot of people to support Kerry just before Iowa. He made a difference, believe me.

He doesn't often endorse before the Massachusetts Primary though. Kerry was an exception.

4. Oh, please. Teddy isn't endorsing anyone.
He likes Obama and is close with the Clintons.

He's in the catbird seat.

17. RFK Jr is for Hillary
I really think that family doesn't like to cross each other. I think he stayed out of the Califoria race too, iirc and I might not.

and play statesman if we end up in a brokered convention.
