Well, my local news just LED with the Obama snubs Clinton story |
|
it was their LEAD story.
so much for this being a DU phenomenon.
And they got very specific about Obama giving her an icy stare and then turning away as she came over.
The anchor at the end: "Everyone will be talking about this tomorrow."

3. It's all very "water cooler" conversation |
|
Forgetting anything else --it was a bad campaign move for Obama.
He had to have known that him and Hillary within 5 feet of each other would have cameras pointed.

16. That is my bottom line on this also |
|
For Obama not to realize the controversy it would kick up to appear to be avoiding contact with Clinton while she was shaking hands with everyone around him, including Ted Kennedy who had just come out against her, is a really major political blunder. This isn't tripping over the words of a joke, this is basic. Hillary Clinton certainly knew she likely would run into Barack Obama at the SOTU, and he sure as hell knew that also. They both needed pre-plans on how they would handle it.
How they interacted with each other was sure to be reported on. Had they both done a small courtesy smile and hand shake, it would have been a small inconsequential toss in to the coverage of the night. At worse it would have been nuetral. Obama went out of his way to shake George Bush's hand, he should have known not to go out of his way to avoid shaking Hillary Clinton's hand. Press were everywhere and some of them no doubt were assigned to closely follow each of the presidential candidates during the entire event. That was absolutely predictable.
If Obama hoped he somehow could avoid direct contact with Clinton without it being obvious that he was avoiding her, that dream was dead the moment he knew she and Kennedy were greeting each other right next to him - he certainly was not oblivious to that. From that moment forward politically he should have known that the gracius AND EXPECTED thing to do would be to greet her also, and from that moment on, politically, it should have become his business to make sure that he did.
Obama just stepped on a full days worth of very positibve media coverage and replaced it with a very sour seeming story instead. One can't afford to do those things during a Presidential election.

and additionally, most people are not political junkies like us. They make decisions based on the personalities of the candidates and on almost imperceptible character cues they pick up on. This holds especially true with Presidential elections. The "you're likable enough, Hillary" moment may have actually cost Obama New Hampshire, even more than Hillary's soft moment. It betrayed, rightly or wrongly, an arrogance and borderline cruelty that a lot of women really picked up on. This "handshake" controversy feeds into the exact same kind of dynamic. It is not going to play well with women who chat about this kind of thing at the water cooler. This holds true for Hillary as well. When she makes a small personality misstep, it is oftentimes magnified and becomes fodder for those that don't follow the ins and outs of the campaign as closely as we all do. IT's sad that this is how a lot of Americans vote for a President. But this is how they make their minds up.

I see you have been here all of three days, and you have appeared in nearly every thread with some sort of snarky comment.
Do you ever post anything positive?
I don't care who your candidate is. You need to get out more.

17. It will be ok - Obama will come out tomorrow and make some lame excuse |
|
Then the media will find a way to make it Hillary's fault.
This is Monday - by Wednesday the Obama camp, some prominent white male has-been politicians and the press will be demanding an apology from both Clinton's for making Obama look bad.
Axelrod has all of the media boys on speaker phone right now and they are all wanking it out.

26. He was probably all bent out of shape that Hillary went out of |
|
her way to greet Ted so graciously. Obama probably expected Kennedy's endorsement would put her in a tizzy.
We can expect a lot more of this from the great uniter. Even if he gets tutored in manners 101 for hours and hours a week, he won't be able to change his stripes quickly enough. His arrogance and entitlement will do him in.

it wasn't on any of my stations in Portland and hasn't been on any of the long running "picking through the puke" CNN analysis of the speech and reactions, etc.
I bet this doesn't get much beyond a few gossipy mentions in the next 24 hours. if that.
