What if Hillary had done the same thing to Obama that he did to her @ the SOTU |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 10:20 AM by xultar
I'm not saying he did or didn't do it on purpose.
I'm just asking what all the Obama supporters would have said if she'd done it. What if she'd said the same thing afterwards...that she was just trying to give him a private moment with Kennedy. (in a crowded room full of people and cameras?)
I'm wondering how many would have said. Hillary Clinton, sore loser, that's why she didn't get the endorsement. Clinton's, business as usual.
Just think. I know a lot of you won't be able to honestly or objectively say what you would have said. I'm just wondering. What you would have said. Think about what you would have typed. How angry you would have been and how you would have been furious that she did this to your chosen candidate. You would have said that she couldn't bring unity to a party if she's going to behave like that...You would have said, she can't bring change because of her behavior and attitude.
But I want you to wonder as well. What would you have said and thought about Hillary if she had done (whether on purpose or not) the exact same thing Obama did last night.
Just asking.

my question. Is there video of the supposed snub? Stills can tell a very different story.
Hillary's people are pushing this hard, it seems reasonable that they would want the most complete picture of her victimization. It's genuinely baffling that the Youtube isn't circulated.

Kennedy and McGaskill were facing Clinton as she approached, and Obama turned his back on her when she was talking to Ted. He managed to walk acoss the room to shake Condy's hand, some Bush cabinet members hands and some Supremes hands, the only person he just couldn't manage to be "available" for was HRC.

27. She DID walk over to him, |
|
HRC walked over and graciously offered her hand to Ted Kennedy, the man who bestowed Obama with the Kennedy legacy on national television, the man who parroted her "from day one" talking point. She shook hands with Claire McGaskill who hasn't had a kind word for the Clintons since she endorsed Obama. That's graciousness.
Obama saw her approaching, saw her talking to Kennedy and turned his back on her. That's an arrogant and childish gesture.

You are making up SHIT based on the very in-exact interpretation of NONVERBAL behavior!
Those of us who have worked within the Field of Social Psychology consider such "off the cuff" interpretation to MATCH with our personal prejudices, as (on both sides) unsound.

You are so blinded by your desire to get HRC elected, that you're "reading into non verbals."
IMONSHO, people who feel a need to INTERPRET non-verbal behavior to match their prejudices are not accurately assessing the situation.
Hey, I am also guilty of such passion. However, I KNOW that I can't get inside of anyone's mind PLUS the interpretation of non-verbal behavior is not a respected social science. There are many flaws to such interpretations. I am willing to believe that Obama was trying to give Hillary and Bill a personal moment, but EVEN I don't KNOW for certain what was going on.
We'd be more accurate reading "tea leaves" than attempting to get inside peoples minds.

14. If Hillary had snubbed Obama... |
|
the conversation would be exactly reversed.
Hillary supporters would be defending Hillary and the Obama supporters would be feigning outrage.
This is all so grossly ridiculous.
It's conversations like this that solidify the unfair stereotype that bloggers are a bunch of immature oddballs, who sit around furiously regurgitating each others' inane remarks---like a bunch of rats living off their own feces.
I was on DU last night, and laughing my ass off at the dozens of "handshake" posts, because I thought people were making fun of how ludicrous the subject was--like debating someone having a hangnail.
It's very bizarre and scary--to see that people are actually taking this seriously and trying to score political points.

Obama was going down the line shaking hands with the candidates, he was approaching Hillary with his hand extended, she turned around and started talking to someone else. Obama paused for a second and turned around.
I didn't come on here and post thread after thread filled with faux outrage over it.

37. To the person who said you can't judge what someone is thinking by Non Verbal action... |
|
... what in the heck are you talking about?
I have two degrees, and one of them is in psychology. You can't judge what is going on in someone's mind because of non verbal behavior? What do you think the Diagnostic Manual (DSM) is???? That is the only way we are able to diagnose. We take a look at a list of behaviors and see which behaviors match a certain list in the DSM and then match that list to the mental condition.
Yes, you can judge someone based on the way they behave. Heck, behavioral psychology, and biological psychology often tend to line up. It looks very clear that Obama didn't want to converse with Hillary right then. We don't know why, maybe she said something rude to him earlier, or who knows. But we do know, from what we have seen so far, that he had no desire to talk to her at the SOTU address.
It is silly to pretend the question is "what did he really mean". I think it's clear he didn't want to talk to her. The question SHOULD be... is it really all THAT bad to not want to talk to someone? Doesn't everyone have that right?
That is what you should be asking. I'm kinda "ehh" on the issue. I think it was rude, but it's not like the Earth is shattering. Someone pointed out on here that Clinton did it to him before. I understand why some people are really offended, I was a little teeny tiny bit, but it's not that big of a deal. Not something to decide who you're voting on. (Sadly, a lot of America is brain dead enough to LET this be something that effects the way they'd make such an important.)

|
gave her last night! THEY ARE FIERCE COMPETITORS, that is all. You know they're both probably operating under the old admonition that if one doesn't have something positive to say about someone they should keep the mouth shut....this time it was a handshake. You can tell at the debates they do not like each other so why would they shake hands in the first place? Just to be "politically" correct? Who cares. I can't imagine that Hillary wants to shake hands with Obama anymore than Obama wants to shake hers. This is plain silly when there are genuine issues at stake.
