Pssst, fellow Obama supporters, can I have a moment of your time? |
|
Tonight Hillary is the very likely winner of the FL primary. You may think it's nothing but a beauty contest, and that remains to be seen, but odds are strong that she will win it and win it big.
So we have an opportunity to try and change the tone around GD-P, or at the very least to take the high road. We can stay away from being baited and we can either offer our congrats or we can stay away from Clinton cheering threads.
Yeah, I know I'm going to get shit for writing this, and I also know it can be hard to resist the temptation when you're being baited, so it's just a suggestion, but one I'm going to try to follow.

1. Just voted for Obama here in Florida today. But as for tonight's threads... |
|
it won't be a problem for me. I'll be at Hillary Clinton's appearance here in Florida. And if anyone on either side of this can't understand why or how I could do that, then I can't explain it to you.

15. Aw, what the hell. I'll explain. |
|
Look, I'm supporting whichever Democrat wins. Period. What I don't understand is how someone can not do that. It may be a little trite, but the fact of the matter is, staying home or voting third party in the general election is a vote for the GOP, whether you or I like it or not.
So, while I don't support Hillary in the primary, I will be supporting her if she wins. Given that, why wouldn't I go see what she has to say, given the chance?

no one campaigned in Florida, and there are no ground organizations there.
Becuase the state decided to break the rules, there are no delegates available.
I don't see what is unclassy about pointing that out. This is a race for delegates, my friend.

13. I heard someone say something last night |
|
They said something to the effect that she is basically running against herself in florida. Meaning the results cant really help her much but they can hurt her. She is expected to win there the only real stories out of florida will either be the result of a huge blowout or a surprisingly tight outcome. Anything else and its a non story.
I think it will be a substantial win. A totally expected one however. The big story I think will be them trying to pick apart the numbers to figure out what they mean. Not really the margin of lead. Unless by some freak of nature florida flips for Obama.

MI & FL will seat the delegates after there is a clear winner and their delegates will go for the winner just like all the other delegates will. We could take the reality road.

Thus FL's votes do matter, otherwise why prevent them from being seated?

It isn't fair to call it a legitimate election because there was no campaigning there. Hillary isn't winning anything. The delgates will go to the ultimate winner, just the way they always do.

44. Pelosi and Dean said that the delegates will be seated. So please, talk to them about it. |
|
The only way they wouldn't be is if a nominee chose not to seat them, and the only concievable scenario in which that would be the case would be if Obama didn't want to seat them because it would hurt his nomination. Period.

45. It doesn't seem like the "Obama supporters" cared much about this post. |
|
Given how they're already tarnishing the good people of FL and MI over their delegates, especially saying how "FL doesn't matter," to the point where Kerry himself is lying about how FL and MI could play a very pivotal role in ending the nomination of a given candidate. I knew this would happen because I believe there exist an "Obama insanity" when it comes to votes counting.

|
Doesn't matter who does it to whom. And supporters for every candidate has done it to celebratory threads for every other candidate. It seems kind of goofy to me. Why should I be insulted because his/her supporters are in a thread cheering about their victory?
They are not "rubbing it in our noses". As you stated, just stay out of those threads. If you don't want to hear a candidate cheered, then don't go to that candidate's victory rally which is what those threads essentially are.

Considering:
1). It counts 2). If McCain wins, he's the undisputed front-runner going into Super Tuesday 3). It's the end of Guiliani
These are the threads that I'm planning on starting and participating in.
I have a feeling that I'll be using the "hide-a-thread" liberally this evening.

40. No worries. The DNC has decreed that Michigan and Florida delegates will not be seated. |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 01:55 PM by AtomicKitten
Hillary trying a reach-around of the rules is simply adding to her already perceived win-at-all-costs strategy. In the end, zero delegates from Michigan and Florida will be seated. So, if she claims victory in Florida it will mean zip, nada, goose-egg.

and this may be one for HRC. As BO racks up endorsements, HRC positions to gain momentum wherever she can. It's called good clean politics and it beats the heck out of hacking away at each other.

but i also tell the HRC people don't name call, don't mud throw, and don't try to destroy the candidate you oppose.
It's good you tell the Obama people to take the high ground.
We should have heated debates. You try and do your best to your candidate to win the Primary.
We are all Democrats though and we need to remember when the Primary is over we need to be a united party.
There's no need to bait or be baited into pointless behavior and counter-productive hatred.
We're adults and more importantly Democrats. I was glad to see an Obama post that says we need to take the higher ground and produce a productive tone.
It's a tough primary race, but we don't want an impossible GE race.
Hopefully the HRC and Obama people will learn to talk to each other correctly.
So I hope you don't get shit for this post and my hats off to you. The Clinton/Obama/Edwards race is one the Democrats have waited along time for.
