My 17-year-old is voting in the VA primary |
|
I went to the registrar's office this morning to make sure everything was in order for me to vote in the Virginia primary in Feb -- and in the course of the conversation, I found out my daughter, who'll be 18 in October, is allowed to vote in the primary!
All of her friends had assured her she couldn't even vote for president in Nov. because one has to register 29 days before the election.
Everyone with a 17-year-old and a primary coming up, take note!

When did they start letting 17 year olds vote?
I'm not doubting your word, but this sounds strange to me.

I was amazed, too.
The clerk took pains to point out that she could ONLY vote in the democratic primary (and repub, of course, too) and the Nov. elections; NOT the local elections in May.
Sbe is really thrilled. We're both ABB.

2. Not ANYONE with a 17 year old. |
|
It has to be someone who will turn eighteen before the election.
And yes, I think you ARE required to register at least a month out, but you don't have to be 18 to register.
BTW - That's Virginia... it may not apply everywhere.

I voted in a primary when I was 17 because I would turn 18 by the general election

I'm 17 and I'll turn 18 twenty days after the primary. I'm from California, so I'll have to research this.

9. I'm in a similar situation. July. We really do need to look into it. |
|
I hope the deadline hasn't passed.

7. 16 year olds in Baltimore |
|
I read several months ago that a glitch in the elections calendar will allow 16 y.o. citizens to vote in the Baltimore mayoral primary because the legislature somehow scheduled the primary over a year before the general, I am unsure of the specifics but it's bizarre
