John Edwards' anger makes sense, By Walter Williams
From the site:
Walter Williams is a Distinguished Fellow at the Center for American Politics & Public Policy and a professor emeritus of public policy (University of Washington). His latest book, published in late 2007, is The Politics of Bad Ideas, written with Bryan D. Jones.

Succinct, interesting, article.

"However grim John Edwards’ chances for the presidency may be, his message must be heard. As president or as a latter day Al Gore, Edwards must not stop shouting that corporate greed and political calculation have taken over our government and sold out the middle class.

Edwards faces a Washington establishment that fears real change to the status quo. A Washington Post reporter wrote before the Iowa caucus that “Edwards continued to veer closer into alarmist territory, warning of ‘the destruction of the middle class’ and “the iron-fisted grip that corporations have on American democracy.”

Is Edwards’ message “alarmist“? No, he’s on the mark."

1. On the McLaughlin group they were saying, "Angry populism isn't the right message this year."
And that was how they dismissed Edwards' campaign, with one sentence.

3. If the message threatens the status quo, it will never be 'the right message, no matter the year.

2. Latter day Al Gore...
It's perfect. Just as Gore was talking about global warming and no one took him seriously before it was too late, such is Edwards fight to be taken seriously about corporate entrenchment in Washington. A profound analogy that I never saw before.

A hearty K&R!

5. It's about time
someone wrote an article such as this.

Edwards speaks the truth. People need to wake up and listen to what he says.

9. The only thing that we have to fear
is fear itself...The painful truth is never comfortable or popular. John speaks the truth and at a time such as this that is hard for many to hear, they are use to watered down and misconstrued truths that are reported by the MSM. Frankly, I still have hopes for John and his message.

13. They tried to make Dean the angry candidate in 2004.
But he was only telling the truth. Same with Edwards.

14. K & R. Great article, thanks for posting.
It's frustrating to me how the media sets the terms for what they consider an appropriate or popular issue a candidate focuses on. Edwards tells the truth about what is happening to the American middle class and the M$M gives him very little coverage. I guess the truth ain't "sexy" enough. :grr:
