According to AP, more than a THIRD of Democrats who voted in the FL primary... |
|
...were 65 and older. In the other primaries, it was only around 25% each time...
I think this reinforces my theory that wherever Obama campaigns, he gets out the youth vote (18-35). But since that didn't happen in Florida, with many young voters undoubtedly questioning the point of voting at all in a race with no delegates, I only think it's fair to say that the only surprise here is that Obama and Edwards did as well they did, under the circumstances.

2. Anybody thinking this Obama bunch is not to be trusted with Social Security? |
|
They don't seem to think they'll ever be old enough to collect it.

19. I had an Obama supporter tell me one night that the baby boomers |
|
have already completely drained Social Security and Medicare. I asked him how old are the baby boomers? He had no idea but he was certain they had drained the funds.
When I explained to him that they had not started retiring yet and it would be five years before they got any medicare he called me a liar.

9. Well, of course! But to cynically play it like ALL campaigned and she "won" is wrong. |
|
They've known the Clinton's down there for 27 years! What would you expect?

16. Obama could NOT have won Florida under these conditions. |
|
With zero campaigning in the state, Hillary has all the name recognition. She won fair and square, but to me the only thing it proves is that more people in Florida are familiar with Hillary Clinton than they are Barack Obama. That's a no-brainer.

7. They set up election machines in retirement homes so it's very easy for them to vote |

Florida was ready made for Hillary. It would be hard for her to lose there.

14. How dastardly of them |
|
nothing I like better than voter suppression by making the old folks go to some precinct somewhere
PLEASE
Hillary won Florida because of her HUGE name recognition - that is why she was SO FAR ahead in the polls for so long until recently - who the hell hasn't heard of Hillary Clinton - less have heard of Barack Obama - and I said to someone the other day I was voting for John Edwards and she said who's that - and Jesus H Christ John Edwards ran for VP just 4 years ago and this woman asks me who's that.
Name recognition is almost EVERYTHING in elections - and Hillary - Billary or whatever has a huge advantage in that department....

15. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it |
|
I just said its an advantage for Hillary especially in a state like Florida with such a huge Retired population. A lot of younger people won't vote because it's a real chore but people who are retired can just walk down the hall and vote.

17. Ok that's cool but actually |
|
there is early voting here - so it isn't really that big of a chore. My fear about the youngsters being so supportive of Obama - is that they don't seem to come through in the general election - and I'm telling you they had better get their sorry butts out to vote in November - even if it is a "chore"
