To all who have not yet voted in the primaries |
|
I'm asking you to vote for Howard Dean or Dennis Kucinich when it's your turn to vote. We're stuck with Kerry as a nominee, so there's no reason to vote for him in the primary. Likewise, Edwards and Clark have signed on to Kerry's train, so votes for either of them would be wasted at this point.
Admittedly, I am not convinced Kerry can beat Junior. But in the event he does, the message MUST be crystal clear that a corporatist DLC, PNAC driven agenda will simply not do. That the people who allowed Kerry to represent us, some of us extremely reluctantly, will not settle for the Bush lite crap that Kerry and so many other so called "Democrats" have given us since the 2000 coup.
The only way to drive this home is to have as many Dean and Kucinich delegates at the convention as humanly possible. The DLC may have chosen their nominee, but that doesn't mean they get to control the agenda for the next 4 years, assuming by some miracle Kerry can find something to actually debate against the Idiot Son of an Asshole.
The corporatists won't bring the people's voice to Boston. The people's candidates will. Let's ram a progressive agenda down these bastards throats whether they like it or not!

Ram your agenda down the bastards's throats.
How about advancing your agenda by actually convincing people to vote for it? Or running a candidate people will vote for?

5. By voting your conscience in subsequent primaries |
|
you are making your presence known.
There is no reason not to support John Kerry if you truly feel that he is the candidate closest to your own beliefs. However, voting for someone else lets the party know that you'd like to see a more progressive platform.

I don't have a big problem with Kerry as the canidate, but he wasn't my first choice. Everyone wants a leader who will stand by his core beliefs, but also one who will listen to the people. Now is the time that Kerry will begin to formulate policy for the general elections on issues that haven't really been brought up until now. If you disagree with his current position, let him know now buy voting for a canidate you do support, maybe Kerry will look closely at which canidates get votes in the comming primaries and consider adopting some of their positions on the issues. If everyone votes for him, he might believe everyone agrees with him on the issues, and there will be no real harm done in voting for the canidate you like, since Kerry will still win anyway.

My only fear is that BushCo will get 4 more years. As for the issues, that's why I'm voting for our nominee...

Isn't libragirl the one who started a thread asking what issues Kerry is running on? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=428703&mesg_id=428703If libragirl doesn't know the candidates positions on the issues, and she thinks one should vote on the issues, how does libragirl figure out who to vote for?

are not really "issues", but style or management skill. Kerry would be better at governing than Bush - well no shit!

I changed my avatar from "Unnamed Dem" to "Kerry" this morning. I was undecided throughout this primary season, finding MUCH to like in Dean, Kucinich, and Clark in particular, though happy that ALL candidates were serving the purpose of getting an anti-BushCo message out to the people. There are SO many reasons why Bush must go, that a focus on Democratic Party Reform isn't even on my radar this year. Besides, the "corporatists" are paying for MY contribution to Kerry and the DSCC and DCCC. If he's good enough for me, he's good enough for them!

27. Then you agree with the corporatist DLC/PNAC platform? |
|
You have repeatedly pointed out Kerry's "liberal voting record" (before 12/12/00). Don't you want to see him return to that?
And don't think he will, unless the message is crystal clear at the convention. Kerry's had the last three years to get it right and he failed. He has to realize that Democrats will NOT accept selling out to the global fascists and corporatists. The only way to send that message is through strength of numbers at the convention. Nobody's gonna get more delegates than Kerry at this point. But he should have to earn the rest of them.

33. We're ALL going to send a President- |
|
but that won't happen until November. I'm not trying to be insulting here, but the sense that you need to jump on the bandwagon now just confounds me.
Kerry is probably going to be the nominee, and I'll live with that and support him as best as I know how, money, campaigning etc. Getting Bush out is vital to too many people's survival- but I don't have to do that today, or even tomorrow. First I can vote for the man I think is the better candidate, and THEN I can continue to follow my conscience when Kerry is officially the nominee. Does that make sense?

If Kerry wants a first ballot nomination, he still needs 999 more delegates.
Also, there's 20 more states that haven't voted yet.
We shall see.

26. I have seen your posts and have admired them in one way-- |
|
You are a "military wife," correct? The term is unfortunate. Maybe you are a member of the military yourself.
A military family--mine goes back for many generations--is very honorable.
But I don't know if we should show that side, and only that side, to our allies now.
Do you know what I mean?

Kerry's nomination is safe. Why not vote for whomever REALLY reflects your ideals and aspirations?
ABB is fine for the general election. Use your primary vote to FOR something you believe in, the "electability" question has already been answered!
