ATTENTION: Super Tuesday Voters |
|
Please don't think I'm just an embittered Edwards supporter when I say this.
I really think if you were already planning to vote for him, you should still do so on Tuesday.
Some might say that this is "throwing your vote away". But may I remind you that come what may, regardless of your vote, we WILL have a Democratic nominee. If you're absolutely adamant that one of the two should NOT be the nominee, then by all means vote for the other one. But if that's not the case, and if neither of the top two remaining candidates appeals to you in particular, then there's really no reason for you to vote for one or the other based on just slightly leaning their way.
There is, however, an excellent reason to still vote for Edwards.
If JE still gets a large percentage of the vote on Super Tuesday regardless of having withdrawn, that will send a loud and clear message that we reject the way the corporate media locked him out of this primary race through their willful lack of coverage.
And that's an important message which should really be sent at this moment in history.

1. I definitely will vote for John in my primary |
|
The more delegates he gets, the more power he has to hold the nominee's feet to the fire. Yes, I know he extracted pledges from both of them to continue his fight for the poor and middle class, but you know how that goes.

3. Edwards could had been in the race until at least Super Tuesday |
|
But he dropped before Super Tuesday for a reason. Maybe he felt he didn't have a chance to win and didn't want to play spoiler. So it was better to drop and let his supporters pick one of the two front runners instead. There is nothing wrong with that and it is pretty graceful of him to do that.
If you dislike the two remaining candidates so much that you can't get yourself up to vote for the "lesser of the two evils", it's okay. Vote for Edwards or whoever else. But if you think that one of the two remaining candidates are "palatable" enough then I would pick one of them.

However not completely. Yes, he did not want to play the role of spoiler. Yes, it was a graceful move for him to bow out before Super Tuesday. However, now it is not possible for him to "spoil" it as you say. One of the other two candidates WILL receive over 50% of the votes. And Edwards most likely will receive far fewer votes now that he's not in it, PARTICULARLY as the race continues in the rest of the states after Super Tuesday.
I don't think Edwards would say that it's not a good idea to send a message about the Mainstream Media on Tuesday, regardless of the fact that he exited the race beforehand. I think he would applaud it.
