I wonder how well is he liked in LA? Winning Louisiana would just about guarantee a Dem victory in November. He is a smooth talker. Got to give him that. Might help in winning back some seats in Congress too? I just don't like the guy. Wonder if he is on the short list?

1. Blue states plus LA = 269/269 TIE
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 08:31 PM by Mattforclark
And that would be ugly. Very ugly. Very very ugly. Yes?

So we would need another state as well...

When selecting a VP one is likely selecting a future presidential candidate. This guy would be bad.

28. This guy is retiring from the Senate.
I don't know how old he is, but it seems to me if he's retiring from the Senate (when his seat is safe) he will probably not run for President in 8 years. I think he's a bit more like Cheney, in that he's not the presumptive nominee at the end of his boss's second term.

Sure, why not Zell Miller. Georgia has more electoral votes than Louisiana, right? Sure, that would be great. And they can make Ben Nighthorse Campbell Secretary of State. Yaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

9. I'm from New Orleans........
(I'm still there), and John Breaux seems to be well-regarded throughout the state. He would likely be a huge boost to Kerry amongst voters in the South-Central and Southwestern (Cajun) parts of the state, and would also help out in the rural parishes in north Louisiana.

10. I get a feeling that Breaux is a closet liberal. He justs acts like a....
DINO because he comes from a "backward" state.

He would be a very formidable opponent to Cheney.

11. He would certainly win his state
and maybe Ark too. But he voted for Bush's tax cuts even though he played hardball. I think his vote for the tax cuts takes him out of the running

12. except of course when he is one of the only
dems allowed to participate on the conference committee for the medicare prescription plan (whereby participating in that sham)... or is one who is not supportive of dems on fiscal policies (when did teh gop and fiscal conservative dems become big deficit spenders... when bush got elected!)... he has been very quick to leave the democrats on key issues - we need someone who can push the president's agenda on the hill... not one who will accomodate to get the president to sign the gop hill's agenda items.

18. too many contradictions in the ticket
Breaux is as middle of the road as they come and he disagrees with Kerry on a number of issues like choice, medicare, guns, taxes, ect. Breaux is still a loyal Democrat, but that sort of ticket would lack consistency.

19. Landreiu is a Better Pick
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 09:08 PM by mdguss
I think people should disregard the crap the media is spewing about former candidates. Picking one would needlessly piss off supporters of others. I have no clue what Kerry will do, but I think this would be a good start in no particular order:

Mary Landrieu, Mark Warner, Max Cleland, Roy Barnes, Bill Nelson, Blanche Lincoln, Jean Shaheen, Harry Reid, John McCain (if he'll jump, take him), Lincoln Chafee, Bill Cohen, Jim Clyburn, Evan Bayh, Al Wynn, etc.

She only won by about 30,000 votes. In Louisiana. Breaux has respect in his home state.

21. Yes She Is:
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 09:13 PM by mdguss
Nationally, she's a woman. She won't bring neccessairly bring her state, but she can make it close. She's well spoken. She's a border-state southern moderate. She's compotent, and she'd compliment Kerry well. She'd put LA, Ark, WVA, maybe Va, and MO into play. She'd be a quality choice--she reaches out to moderates without upsetting the liberal base. Breaux on the other hand would upset many, many people on the left--just as Lieberman did. I like both Breaux and Lieberman.

But, but...she's a WOMAN!

Yeah! So there! Probably racist too, and has stinky underarms...

No, I think you have a point. A Landrieu candidacy could definitely turn out more women. And a few more Alabamians and Texans who like the cajun name.

Seriously, it would deliver Louisiana to the Democrats, but God what a price. Talk about your "Faustian deal".

Cut me a little slack here. I wasn't attempting to try and start a grassroots draft Breaux for VP campaign or nothing. I was just asking a couple of questions in the abstract. Excuse the hell out of me. (Just kidding) See ya later.

29. Breaux

John Breaux is probably the most popular politician down here. While I dislike a lot of his positions, I can almost guarantee that he would deliver Louisiana if he was given the VP nomination.

When Mary Landrieu ran for re-election a few years ago, the only Democrat who campaigned with her was Breaux and she beat that nasty troll of a woman Susanne Terrell even when Terrell brought down Shrub and Cheney to campaign for her.

Louisiana is VERY attainable for us, we elected a Democratic governor last year and people down here are less driven to vote by party than some of the other Southern states.
