1. In a year with a great economy and no war...not a chance.
This, however, is not a normal year.

6. No. There are still people who won't sit next to a black person on a bus,
or grab their purses when they see a black person walking past, or follow a black person in a store. Black folk can hardly get cabs in this country.

There are still white people who won't invite a black person over to their house.

I see and experience too much shit, hear about and see too much shit to think this racist as fuck country would allow any one of any race other than white to be president.

Think about it, Britain is way more diverse than we are and they still haven't had a diverse prime minister.

11. No Britain is not more diverse
I've spent a considerable amount of time there over the years as my mother lives there part of the year.

And if not now, when? There is never a "good" time to break through prejudice.

45. I would also add to the readiness list
East Coast Jews and Italians. There's also a lot of prejudice in this country about having anyone from either of those 2 groups as President, IMO.

I DO NOT want a repuke in the office for the next 4 years.. anyone who can beat them is good with me at this point black , white or purple.. female male or BOTH...
But I see HUNDRED of people a day and seeing that many people and their ignorance out there is SCARY...
hearing the shit they say SCARES ME..
i know what we are up against.. and it SCARES ME...
I hope america isn't as ignorant as I think they are and I hope they prove me wrong!

Is the goal winning or social engineering? If southern white guys can obviously and easily win for us, isn't it racism to pick someone else? The Republicans won't even have to cheat very much to beat :tinfoilhat:bama.

Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 09:18 PM by mirrera
We MUST remember that all these wonderful people that have been driven out can get back into our system with a Democratic White House. I just watched an awesome tribute to John Edwards and the others who have dropped out. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x89146) I felt like crying my eyes out, but then I thought about all the crooks that ride the coat tails of the GOP, and realised again, all these great Democrats, us... we will have the chance to change things only with the White House. Yes both our candidates are miles above the GOP candidates. MILES! The only thing missing is our unity and strength. We always fracture. We try for perfect, which is admirable, but not if it brings us hell instead. I would be happier with good for a start.

12. Yes. Either, but especially a woman.
How often it goes unmentioned: Women are the Majority in America. And women have been turning out in record numbers to vote in the Democratic primaries. 3 women voted for every 2 men in the Democratic Primary just held in Florida (with about 1.5 million Democratic voters participating).

as our nominee. Ready or not? Yeah, we are ready and willing. The fat old white guys have not done a good job historically have they?

Indeed, we are ready and so is the bulk of the country.

I'm very confident that our nominee will win in November. I honestly don't understand why anybody doubts it.

The country's a mess and people want change. This is the PERFECT year to run a woman or an African American.

Of course not - at least until they elected Nelson Mandela that year.

Country's are never ready for change until the change happens.

Many whites want to show that they aren't racist and it's easier to vote for a black man than have a black grandchildren. I'm not sure about whether we will vote for a woman but I do believe that Hilary has the best chance in history.

40. Now I didn't say anything about the gay part.
Republicans are not anti-black. Heck they appointed the first African American female Sec of State. White theocrats come together with Black theocrats all the time. But they are definitely anti-Mexican (but pro-Cuban) and anti-LGBT.

37. There's no such thing as ready.
America wasn't ready for its own Revolution. It wasn't ready to abolish slavery. It wasn't ready for women to have reproductive freedom. It wasn't ready for gay marriage.

Nevertheless, we managed to deal with it, though we still have a lot to work out.
