1. And Teddy can extend it back to 1970
Obama will hamstring himself with all the openings he's giving to The Eeevil Hillary.

Much simpler than having to think for yourself.

4. That's actually the Clinton's greatest appeal
If the US slides into recession- or worse, people will be pining for the Clinton years. Never mind that they sowed the seeds for much of what has come to pass.

The vast majority of Americans don't know a lick about economic policy- but they can and will make associations to what they experienced in the 90's.

On the other hand, Obama has no credentials whatsoever in economics- he's an untested and unproven quantity, who's never governed and, unlike McCain has limited experience in the Senate.

Not exactly something his campaign would want to draw attention to.

5. won't happen.
If we relive the Clinton years, Bill would pull some other stupid move that would energize the opponents, paralyze government, and distract us from serious issues. And then, in a reflexive response to Bill's behavior, Americans then elect another BushBot, probably even worse than the Wth. Eight more years of Bushisms would be totally unacceptable.

8. Sometimes I do long for those days.
Somehow we were able so save a significant amount of money even though we earned less. And when Clinton was in office, we had a baby and I was able to stay home with her for several years and we still were not struggling as hard as we are now with both of us working. Now we just live paycheck to paycheck and can't save a dime because we are taxed to death and everything we buy costs a fortune.

16. I would not mind taking a "step back" if it erased the damage of the Bush years before we move
forward to solve the important problems we face. Obama is certainly not a bridge builder. He does not have the experience.

So far, the 2000's have pretty much sucked. Thanks Bush.

20. That's a Bill Clinton v Bob Dole line
that Obama is quite cleverly using there.

Clinton's 'Bridge to the 21st century' beat Bob Dole's nostalgic 'Bridge to the 20th century' back in 1996.

24. Bridge back to the 20th Century? What a dumbass statement....
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 10:06 AM by suston96
If someone builds a bridge from the 20th Century to the 21st Century like the Clintons did, there already IS a bridge "back to the 20th Century..."

Ya see, bridges go in two directions and......uh, never mind. It's a difficult concept meant only for bridge engineers.....

27. Hillary should steal that and use it for herself.
Many people would LOVE to go back to the booming 1990's. Government surpluses, growing job market, skyrocketing stocks, respected on the international front.

If I really thought Hillary would bring all that back, I'd be a much stronger supporter.

Can't forget what Bill did for him with the telecommunications act. It's common folks like that she can count on.
