NYT: Clinton "leads in total number of endorsements from senators and governors"

January 30, 2008, 5:32 pm
Endorsement Scorecard
By Katharine Q. Seelye

While Senator Hillary Clinton of New York and Senator Barack Obama of Illinois are now eagerly vying for the endorsement of former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina, who dropped out of the race today, they have also been lining up other top Democratic officials in advance of Super Tuesday.

Senator Patty Murray of Washington endorsed Mrs. Clinton today. Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts endorsed Mr. Obama on Monday and Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas followed suit on Tuesday.

Mrs. Clinton still leads in total number of endorsements from senators and governors, with 12 senators and nine governors, while Mr. Obama has eight Senators and five governors.

3. Sorry... should have been more specific
The Democratic Party establishment anointed Clinton long ago. This has been pretty obvious stuff over the past couple of years in internal Democratic politics. And rightly so in many ways...President Clinton is the de facto leader of the Party and has been working the heavy hitters on behalf of his wife's candidacy for a long time.

Which is why her "super-delegate" count has led throughout. The Edwards and Obama campaigns have been the insurgents that are setting the brakes the Clinton coronation. Which may still be inevitable, I know.

It's just good from my point of view to see some movement among Party big-wigs (I'm a "small-wig" myself LOL)
