The most important thing NOBODY KNOWS about the California Primary |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 02:50 PM by NJSecularist
The GOP primary in California is closed. Only registered Republicans can vote in their primary.
However, the Democratic primary isn't closed. Democrats and Independents can all vote for a Democrat in California.
This is important because McCain has a strong independent following. In New Hampshire, one could argue that he took enough independents away from Obama that it caused Hillary to win the race.
In California, that just won't happen. Only the Democrats can recieve independent voters. Who does that favor on Tuesday? Nobody knows, but it will be an interesting dynamic to watch on Tuesday.
(Well, to be technical, Californians know this, but not many others do).

said that. Considering his independent support in the past, it certainly couldn't hurt him.

8. I quote from the original post: |
|
"Who does that favor on Tuesday? Nobody knows, but it will be an interesting dynamic to watch on Tuesday."
And no other poster before you said that they would vote for Obama.
Or is it a stupid comment that there will be an interesting dynamic? Actually, to suggest that there would NOT be an interesting dynamic in California would be a stupid comment.
But you got it said, so if anyone comes on and says that all California independents will vote in the Dem primary and vote for Obama, they have been pre-labeled.

5. Not true. Decline to stater are the only ones other than Dems that can vote in Dem primary |
|
Open primary system involving cross party voting was ruled unconstitutional in CA some time ago.
Decline to state voters (which is about 1/3 of the electorate) can vote in any party primary that allows them to do so.
The GOP is not allowing Decline to staters in for their primary.
The Democrats and the MAerican Independent Party are the ones in CA that will be allowing decline to staters to vote in their respective primaries.
