Lieberman Calls for Kerry, Bush Restraint

WASHINGTON - Sen. Joe Lieberman, who ended his bid for the White House last month, urged Democrat John Kerry and President Bush to transcend "rigid and reflexive partisan politics" in the presidential campaign.

"We cannot allow a singular quest for electoral victory to impede the more universal and important quest for victory over terrorism, a victory that will enable the American people to feel fully secure again here at home," Lieberman said in his first major speech to the Senate since he dropped out of the presidential race Feb. 3.

Lieberman said political rancor between the two candidates will only divide and weaken Americans.

"Our parties and presidential candidates must find ways to differ without being destructive, to debate without demonizing, to put our national interest ahead of special interests," Lieberman said.

1. Bite me, Lieberman
In case you didn't notice, Joe, your loss was humiliating and it was due to the vast majority of Americans not giving a damn what the hell you think. They didn't care then, and they don't care now.

9. hmm.....
wasn't too much "joe-mentum" in 2000!

VP Gore should have looked one or two spaces down that 3-lined "short list". everyone remember the next 2 names on that list were "John Kerry" & "John Edwards"!!!!!!

Hey, what a novel idea......Kerry & Edwards!!!! 2004

10. Average Joe
Lead with fear Joe. That will wow them.

Let's not speak about hope, about dreams, about community. After all, those are messy Progressive values.

Are you aware that you are dividing Americans with your own words?

O

13. Sen. Joe Lieberman... expert on steering a successful race... front runner
(due to name recognition) to quick departure in the primaries. Just the person who should be turned to first for campaign advice.

22. ah, but Sen. Lieberman
is the only one with the honor of starting out in 2003 (the day after Gore announced that he would not run) as the front runner. He gets top honors in this category. Others are relegated only to honorable mention.

14. Frankly, Joe, I'm hoping to see some Terror used by Dems on the
subjects of healthcare, social safety net issues, environment, etc etc.

I want to see the fear of God instilled in Americans on these issues instead of the phony "terra war" being manipulated by Bush....

15. Given his puzzling stances on things
I wonder who his behind-the-scenes backers are - he seems to be awfully pro military. He certainly seems to be one reason why the gore campaign stalled so badly.

where he is despite his jomentum :puke:

Also a big reason why Kerry must choose someone dynamic and outspoken for the #2 spot. No more patronizing, wimpy Senate Republicrats!

24. "...national interest ahead of special interests," Lieberman said.
That's the key--"national interest." Which explains, for example, why Kerry insists that there was a right way and a wrong way to go into Iraq, not a problem with going into Iraq itself.
