ACTUAL News on A Possible Gore Endorsement of Obama
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 12:32 AM by hnmnf
The Latest on Gore

According to a source close to Al Gore, multiple people in the former VP's orbit are in touch with him on a regular basis to urge an Obama endorsement. According to this source, Gore's hesitation is three-fold:

1.) The memory of the ill-fated Dean endorsement looms large for him.

2.) (Which is somewhat related to 1.) He's worried about somehow jinxing Obama.

3.) He's enjoying the contrast between himself (statesman-like, above the fray) and Bill Clinton, who's been rooting around in the mud for his wife and damaging his legacy in the process.

To that list, I can't help adding a thought of my own: If, as now seems possible, this race goes to the convention and the convention gets deadlocked, is it so crazy for Gore to imagine himself as either a.) one of the party elders who decides the outcome, or b.) a unifying, white knight candidate in his own right? And, if that's not crazy, shouldn't Gore sit tight for now?

Just askin'...

2. That kinda sums up what
I thought about why he wouldn't if he wanted him to win.

Course, Gore's got Nobel Peace Prize and a doc that got an Oscar since Dean's endorsement and several other recognitions of achievement.

3. because we know no ACTUAL facts
for all we know... Gore is supporting Hillary or was huge behind Edwards. I think it is silly of Obama fans to automatically assume that Gore LOVES the candidate they love. That may be true, but there has been no statement of any such assertion.

20. perhaps
but Ted Kennedy and Hillary are known to be friendly as well. The point is, we do not actually know anything for certain.

21. Gore would support Hillary and her Green Collar Workers before he supported Obama and...
...his coal factory support.

8. Honestly, I think that Obama is set for Super Tuesday...
I really do. I didn't a week ago, but I'm feeling good now. His grassroots organization is really amazing.

So I like the idea of Gore holding back on an endorsement. Super Tuesday is NOT going to decide this, so Obama would need things like this to keep the momentum going.

But yeah, I just don't see Gore endorsing Hillary.

9. Maybe Gore endorses right after Super tuesday
1) If Obama wins ST (either delegates or in the media), a Gore endorsements continues his roll.

2) If Obama loses ST (if the media spins even a close delegate race as a win for hillary because she win more states), a Gore endorsement steals her thunder

17. I would actually drag it out a bit further...
And maybe have him endorse closer to the PA primary on April 22, which happens to be Earth Day, come to think about it.

I think that if Obama does well on Tuesday, Edwards would be more likely to endorse him (I still don't see how he could ever endorse Hillary, but that is beside the point). An Edwards endorsement soon after ST, would be great, because he would still have a lot of influence over his supporters.

I don't know, I'm just talking here. :)

16. It would be damn stupid
for Gore to endorse anyone at this point. It would serve him no purpose, and could actually come back at him. For his own sake, he should for now.. stay out of it.

19. Best to sit back and watch, Obama's got it going on
Nice to see Gore have the elder statesman position, he could step in if and when needed

He is a superdelegate and probably has sway with some of the other ones, that is very useful

24. All I know is that this "unnamed source" seems to get around...
This piece sounds suspiciously like the one I posted. Very curious.

Tonight is weird. First we had the bunk Richardson endorsement, and now this cryptic Gore stuff. Weird.
