McClatchey: Clinton's 35 Years of Change Omits Most of Her Career
"Clinton worked at the Children's Defense Fund for less than a year, and that's the only full-time job in the nonprofit sector she's ever had. She also worked briefly as a law professor.

Clinton spent the bulk of her career — 15 of those 35 years — at one of Arkansas' most prestigious corporate law firms, where she represented big companies and served on corporate boards.

Neither she nor her surrogates, however, ever mention that on the campaign trail. Her campaign Web site biography devotes six paragraphs to her pro bono legal work for the poor but sums up the bulk of her experience in one sentence: "She also continued her legal career as a partner in a law firm."

I truly did not know this. I had the impression she worked many years for the CDF.

3. Why?
I support Hillary, and I have no problem with it.

Most attorneys who do full-time nonprofit work only stay for a year or two. It's a common practice with young leftist attorneys gaining experience. I have a friend who is currently doing part-time pro bono discovery for at least three major public interest cases, a practice Hillary also engaged in.

4. Clinton did a great deal of public service work during her time at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock.
Interesting how the reporter drew up a narrative and then stuck this conflicting para in:

Clinton did a great deal of public service work during her time at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock. She served on the board of the Legal Services Corp. during the Carter administration and for a time was its chair. She helped found a child advocacy system in Arkansas and took on several tasks as the state's first lady, such as revisions of the state's education system and rural health care delivery. She also served on the board of directors of the Children's Defense Fund, and on the board of a children's hospital.

9. Marian Wright Edelman was pissed with Welfare Reform
http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/editorblog/034

"Among those who ardently and eloquently opposed the Clinton "welfare reform" bill was Marian Wright Edelman. Her husband, Peter Edelman, quit his high-level job at the Department of Health and Human Services in protest when Bill Clinton signed the bill. He was deeply upset about what the legislation would do to helpless children."

Interesting article.

14. 15 Years at Rose Law Firm - Little Rock's most connected firm to the corporate elite
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 04:55 AM by democrat2thecore
"In the economic realm, Rose has been termed "the ultimate establishment law firm"<1> in the state; during the 1970s, for example, its clients included Tyson Foods, Wal-Mart, large brokerage Stephens, Inc., Worthen Bank, and the Arkansas Democrat and other Hussman family media holdings.<1> Hillary Rodham Clinton became the firm's first female associate,<1> and soon its first female partner,<2> during her husband Bill Clinton's tenure as Governor of Arkansas. Webster Hubbell and Vince Foster were also partners, before becoming Assistant Attorney General and deputy White House counsel in the Clinton administration, respectively. Rose Law Firm entered the national news during the 1990s as part of the Whitewater controversy, as investigators sought to determine how much work Clinton had done for the firm while representing Jim McDougal in cases involving the latter's Madison Guaranty and Castle Grande enterprises.<3>"

15. This is hyperbolic nonsense
When Hillary worked for the Children's Defense Fund, she solved all problems related to children that were or could ever happen.

21. She did!
She solved them in the first four months, if you want to be technical about it. The last two were just collecting her paycheck and slipping out early for lunch.

16. She certainly worked to give that impression in the last debate
I'm glad that the accuracy of that claim is getting some scrutiny. It does seem that she has a tendency to embellish the truth.

I had noticed this when I looked into the S-CHIP when her web site claimed she initiated. I knew that Kennedy had explained that he and Kerry started that process. Kerry's web site correctly spoke of co-authoring the earlier bill and I knew that the bill was sponsored by Kennedy and Hatch, co-sponsored by Kerry and Dodd. I found the NYT article of that time. HRC did have a role and it was important - she lobbied a reluctant Bill Clinton to include funding for it in the budget once Kennedy got the bill through a Republican dominated Senate.
