I would be so much more impressed by Barack Obama if he could beat Hillary |
|
by appealing more to Democrats instead of reaching out to Independents and Republicans during the Democratic Primary.

if she could beat Obama without the sleaze and lies from her husband and campaign. Or if when the going got tough she didnt resort to fear as her selling point every time.

You may love the hatred and idiocy on both sides, which leads to the insane decisions we've seen in the last 7 years, but I think most people do not. Most want both sides to actually listen to the other, and to actually work towards creating policies that helps the country overall.
Why is this such a bad thing. Or said another way, why on earth do find the current insane, nasty gridlock to be a good thing?

Truly! I want gridlock to end. I HATE seeing nothing done in washington other than these idiot games.
I would LOVE a race between McCain and Obama, where BOTH are reaching out to members of the other party. I can think of nothing better for the country than that, as far as a general election campaign goes.

And truly, I'm far more interested in the country to do good than the Democratic party alone. Sorry if you think that's a bad thing.
In fact, I'm all for a significant reduction in power from both parties.
I STRONGLY support the abolition of the electoral college, which will make everyone's votes count again, and will significantly diminish the power of state party structures.
I STRONGLY support making gerrymandering illegal.
I STRONGLY support term limits for folks in congress.

|
If Obama has now reached them I say it's about TIME they woke up. But maybe it actually TOOK Bush2 to make them finally wake up to what the GOP agenda actually looks like for the country when it is actually pursued in earnest. Bad news for the working man.
Why do you begrudge any Dem reaching out to those fucked over by GOP policies and demagoguery for decades?

25. I'm happy that Barack Obama is smart enough to reach out to a |
|
group of disgruntled citizens.....probably a sizeable number of people. In a close primary I'm certain he's aware that he needs every vote he can garner....why not prove that the Democratic Party is the party that will take in the disenfranchised? I think all the candidates are seeking Independents and cross overs. Nothing new, at least this time around.
Another thing: Obama has campaigned that he can bring the nation together....seems to me he's practicing what he's preaching by reaching out. We've seen little of that from either side for a long time now.

7. Is acting like a Pelosi or a Reid really what you want in a candidate? |
|
One who will talk tough initially but then eventually cave in and "compromise" ? That is what the current crop of Republicans mean by "compromise"; waiting around til the Democratic Congressional leaders shut the fuck up and buckle to their demands.
One of my favorite memories of the Clinton administration was when he told the Gingrich Republicans to suck it over the budget staredown. That is the problem with Obama; he lacks the will and the desire to ever do that.

29. It's not lying or cheating to reach out to Republicans and independents in an open primary |
|
Here in New York, only registered Democrats can vote in the Democratic primary. Other states have different rules, though. All campaigns take the rules as they find them and try to win within the boundaries of those rules.
If you believe that all primaries should be closed primaries, as in New York, then take it up with your state legislature. I personally think there are some good arguments on each side of the issue. To challenge the established procedure only when it seems to work against your preferred candidate, however, seems like special pleading.

31. That makes me a bit nervous too. |
|
I have to admit I question what His Presidency will look like after hearing him campaigning in such a way that he wants Unity with the very people who brought us G.W.bush.And how he thinks he can bring such Unity when Republicans have fought us so hard and will continue to when we win The WhiteHouse back.I think he is a bit too idealistic on that front.
Then again when I hear that he could bring a permanent Democratic Majority and realize too that he is not going to be THE Party and can't do what ever he wants but will have to work with other Democrats I feel less concerned about it all.
He's a good man.He convinced me he has Democratic Values at heart and at the fore front during the last debate. But I too wish he were as Lion-esque as Kennedy is when it comes to the Deomcratic Party itself.

I agree that he's essentially a good man, too, at least I sure hope he is. I just wish he wouldn't feel the need to cater to the other side so often during his speeches in a Democratic Primary.

38. And Hillary has more Dems refusing to vote for her... |
|
...within her own party then any other candidate has (respectively) from theirs!
Obama's message is inclusive.
Hillary's candidacy is exclusive.
She has more folks who "refuse" to vote for her than any candidate from either party. And in particular, there are a hell of a lot of Dems that will not vote for her.
I'd rather win with Obama/inclusive then lose with Hillary/exclusive.
Easy choice from here.
