I think everyone in Cali is screening their calls. |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 05:06 PM by NC_Nurse
I've been getting answering machines all day!:D
Guess I can't blame'em. STILL, it would be nice to talk to a real human.
I finally called my daughter in NYC to give my spiel so I could talk to someone, she must be at work so of course I got - her VOICEMAIL!!! So I left her a message. ;-)

1. I think most people do that these days... |
|
I was phonebanking for John in SC and got answering machines about 90% of the time.

2. This place has become so weird and paranoid |
|
I read your title as an accusation that DUer cali is screening everyone's calls.
(Pssst... We don't call it Cali in Cali. It's like Frisco. Tags you as an outsider right away.)

people in other areas of the country always say "You're from the South, aren't you?". Sigh. Mainly I'm just too lazy to type the whole name.
I've never tried to call cali the DU'er. ;) She's for my guy anyway. Gobama!

14. Right on. Keep on dialing. |
|
And remember, a lot of us have cell phones only here. You are not talking to an accurate sample of Californians if you are dialing landline numbers. I haven't had a landline since 2005.

17. There is a phenomenon here called the Brunch Nation |
|
In L.A. in particular. Every day of the week you see people packing restaurants from 10 to noon, having long, leisurely lunches with mimosas, etc. Where do they come from? What, if anything, do they do? How do they pay for their Eggs Benedict? It's one of the mysteries of the Golden State.

26. An absolutely wonderful, ridiculously expensive place to visit |
|
Both the aquarium and the state.
I think I rode in a car through NC when I was 12. I don't think it was one of the states we stopped in. My high school geometry teacher was an NC native and a Duke graduate. Nice guy, and I still remember geometry.

30. NC is a nice place. Sadly, a red state, but the people are actually very |
|
friendly. Chapel Hill is one of the few blue areas. UNC is the oldest public university in the US. We've got mountains and beaches too, like you do. :-) Probably a good bit cheaper too...

33. I lived in Texas for a while, |
|
so I understand about the civility despite the politics. In fact, my girlfriend is Texan from a Republican-leaning Baptist family. She is more gung-ho for Obama than I am!
I would like to take a leisurely drive around the South someday. I'm really fascinated by the history and the cultural differences.

5. Heck, no one ever calls me. |
|
But maybe it's because I live in what must be one of the most liberal ZIPs in the country.
Three land lines and two cell phones and I have yet to receive a single campaign call this year.
But SOMEBODY'S Headquarters quit stuffing my mailbox when I told them that no further funds would be coming from me.

19. Funny phonebanking story |
|
I phonebanked for Obama a few days ago, mostly calling Californians.
About one in six people I reached would, when asked, "Is Lisa there?" would say, "No, she's not, can I take a message?"
When I would say, "It's Jennifer from the Barack Obama campaign," invariably the person would say, "Oh! Yes, this is Lisa! Hi!!"
That just kept cracking me up all day long. ;-)

28. We screen calls because if we didn't, we would spend the ENTIRE DAY |
|
fending off telephone solicitations af all stripes.
They call my office, too, and NOW I UNDERSTAND why companies have those damned voicemail systems where you navigate through the prompts pushing buttons. It screens out the recorded solicitations and most of the boiler room operations.

If the caller ID is unblocked, and we recognize the caller we'll pick up. Otherwise it goes to the machine.
And most days no one is home during the day - we've been getting a lot of hang-ups.
