Don't fall for the Republican Trap and nominate Hillary |
|
Thats who they want to run against to win the Presidential Race and to make Gains in Congress. The only way they can get their base completely behind McCain is if she is the nominee.
This should be a big Election Season for the Democrats. Only they can F-ck it up.
Book it!

12. Moderate Repub voters see Obama as the most authentic candidate |
|
and will vote for him in the general as well. They feel betrayed by their own party, who outspent the Democrats and misrepresented the war.
I've seen letters and heard callers pushing Clinton from wingers who have no intention of voting for her...you can tell by how uninformed they are. No reasoning, just talking points.
That's not to say that there is no reason to support Clinton. She's a fine candidate, and my post is just an anecdote, but to me it speaks volumes about the thinking on the right.

11. Good point, but the people going to the polls for Obama aren't going |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 12:56 PM by Bread and Circus
for strategic reasons. The OP is really talking about the Republican leadership.
Rank and file Republicans are not diabolical people. They really aren't different from those on the left. They have different beliefs but their hopes and dreams are a lot of the times the same.
There's more that unites us, than divides us.
I know that's heresy to say on DU, but people here need to get some perspective.
One thing I can tell you is that they are going to the polls to vote against her now, and the will do so again in November. You don't vote against something just so you can vote for it.

|
Just like some Democrats will vote for whomever can make the Rep race the most bruising and strength-sapping it can be. Surely you've seen that here. Surely we're not so much more Macchiavellian than them?
Remember too that I'm not suggesting some tin foil hattery mass crusade orchestrated by the RNC. I just have to wonder how much of Obama's support is soft and will revert to type in Novemeber, We know he's getting a lot of Rep/Indy support. My hope, and my bet in voting for him, is that he can keep enough of it in Novemeber. My worry is that I may be wrong.

|
If you don't think ANY Republicans could possibly want to interfere with Democratic primaries then I'm not going to convince you otherwise by the unpleasant task of trolling FR for threads that mention doing it so not sure what the payback would be. To be honest I would consider it a perfectly reasonable tautology to assume that partisans want to hurt the chances of the other side. Don't we? Again I don't think that ALL of the non-Dems voting Obama are connected to some secret cabal or even all driven by such tactical considerations. However the idea that HRC is somehow the chosen darling of Republicans seeking to boost their chances when Obama gets far more votes from them is even less likely wouldn't you think?

Nothing would make me happier than a 58-42 Obama rout in Nov with him maintaining a sizeable number of teh Rep/Indy votes he's getting in the primaries.
Nothing would disappoint me more with buyer's remorse than watching them all evaporate and having him lose 49-51 because they all found things they could vote for in McCain far more easily.
I wouldn't have voted for the guy had I not that he could avoid the latter, but I think it's far from certain and a lot less cut and dry than many here seem to believe.

Last time there was a Clinton in the WH, the republicans gained control of congress and held onto it for 12 years - Clinton passed NAFTA for them, and welfare reform, and DOMA and DADT, and covered up the Iran/Contra crimes, and BCCI, the looting of the S&Ls by the Bush family...
WHY would they be scared of Hillary?

it looks like the Republican Trap being set is getting us to vote for Obama. They want Obama so they can tear him apart. But then again these are only opinions and theories, so don't vote on who you think the Repubs want, vote on who you want. Opinions and theories got us in trouble back in 2000 and 2004. Vote on where you stand and don't second guess yourself.

You may want to study the following statement.
A snake is always a snake.
and A broken clock is right twice a day.
Yeah, the GOP wants a third chance at the only Democratic team to hand them their asses twice....Yep uh hum...Maybe if I hit my self in the head with a sledge hammer I could buy your 30 cent argument. And it is a team. Hillary was right there in the thick of it, make no mistake about that.

Where have you heard them SAY they are scared of Hillary?
The fact is, Bill would not have won if there hadn't been a spoiler in 92. And he won in 96 on the strength of the republican positions he backed (NAFTA, welfare reform, etc.) and republican crimes he did not investigate (Iran/Contra, BCCI, etc.).
If hillary is the nominee, they win either way - she is easy for them to rally against, and if she does win she'll spend her term covering up republican crimes just like Bill did.

|
...from the main streat media to date. The trap is putting a man who has held national office a total of only 2+ years, who has no executive experience, who never has held even a state wide office in his career, up against a seasoned veteran Republican icon like John McCain. The trap is running a man who rallies support to his side by decrying a soft ball contest with the Clinton campaign as one dominated by "Rovian" tactics, who hasn't a clue what it really feels like to come up against genuine Rovian tactics in a hard hitting actual contest facing everything the Republicans and their media allies have been holding back so far to throw against him if Democrats nominate him as our candidate.
