I wonder if that would bother McPeak? Isn't he Obama's chief military adviser? I read in '04 there had been friction between McPeak and Wes during their active duty days.

He would be laughed off the stage as the perennial Dem VP candidate.
Not to mention its a bit hard to run a change campaign when you're airing reruns.

43. HUH? That is a valid policy difference, not a "gotcha." |
|
Obama is far to the right of many Dems on energy issues. Look up his accomodations to coal and nuclear. He comes from a state that is a heavy user of both.
Putting your head in the sand and "pretending" that there's no daylight between that group and Obama on energy isn't going to make it happen.

44. I am not an Obama supporter |
|
But there are plenty of threads in which s/he could have criticized Obama's stance on energy issues. This thread was seeking to discuss a specific idea, that of the potential running mate.
I don't really like either of our candidates, personally, but I don't understand the need some feel to criticize in *every single post* rather than simply discussing other aspects of the campaign. I don't like Clinton either, but I have had discussions with a friend of mine who is a Clinton supporter on who we think would be a good running mate for her as well. You know, thinkgs like who she needs on her ticket to balance certain issues, who would run interference best in certain areas of the country, etc. Ironically enough, my friend and I both agreed that Richardson would probably be the best choice for both (and I'm not an over the moon fan of his either).

48. First time I have ever even noticed that individual. The point made, though, WAS salient. |
|
His or her point is valid--the lion and the lamb don't lie down together. The OP talked about the ideal running mate for Obama, and speculated on Edwards, and that post in response graphically illustrated why it was, frankly, a dumbass idea.
I get a bit tired when I see political dunces putting together "dream tickets" like they're getting their Ken Doll to dump Barbie and choose Midge, or what-have-you, or speculating on how Star Wars would be improved if only Captain Kirk could be integrated into the story line--it's all just....idiotic.
One might as well speculate on a McCain-Obama ticket, sorta like a remix of that McCain-Kerry idea that was floating around awhile back...

For many reasons, but a vice presidential candidate has to be a tough warrior. John Edwards wasn't great at that in 2004, much as I love him. Jim Webb would be a tough SOB.
Jim Webb would be the right choice.

29. Was this a guest of Thom Hartmann's, because I recall this mention as well! |
|
The guest was saying that he'd need someone that could really contribute with the "experience" factor, and also bring some decent military and foreign policy credentials as well.
Nunn was always regarded as a pretty hawkish Dem...perhaps to the point where he'd turn off a lot of the base of the party.

In many ways, he would serve a similar role to Obama as Dick Cheney did to bush, an experienced Washington DC power player with no real designs on the presidency himself. He would add the appearance of gravitas to the ticket that those doubting Obama's experience would look for.
Just my opinion.
