3. Is there any proof he would have been a Super Delegate if he hadn't endorsed McCain? |
|
He wasn't elected as a Democrat. He was elected as the "Connecticut for Lieberman" candidate.

|

...and he's the only other Independent in Congress.
And Sanders didn't endorse a Republican for president.
I'm skeptical that Lieberman was ever a super delegate for 2008.

If it went based on personal party registration instead of which party elected the candidate to the Senate, then Republican Senators could swith their personal party registrations to Democrat and become super delegates to the Democratic Convention.

31. Agreed! DNC may have put this rule in place to make sure there isn't any doubt. |

A. The procedure to be used for certifying unpledged party leader and elected official delegates is as follows:
Not later than March 1, 2008, the Secretary of the Democratic National Committee shall officially confirm to each State Democratic Chair the names of the following unpledged delegates who legally reside in their respective state and who shall be recognized as part of their state’s delegation unless any such member has publicly expressed support for the election of, or has endorsed, a presidential candidate of another political party:
1. The individuals recognized as members of the DNC (as set forth in Article Three, Sections 2 and 3 of the Charter of the Democratic Party of the United States); and, 2. I was surprised he was given the status, especially since he went (I) and sided with Chimp. And he's been stumping with McLame. So he's not worthy in my book. There are many true Dems out there who are more deserving of the status.

39. Lieberman's party affiliation is Democratic, at least on his voter registration |
|
He ran as the candidate of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party but he never joined the party himself.
The rule gives superdelegate status to any "Democrat" who holds one of the specified positions. The most natural reading is that it refers to voter registration. Anyway, Joe has spared us the trouble of figuring this out, and good riddance.
Our nominee -- be it Clinton, Obama, or the brokered-convention ticket of Gore/Edwards -- will carry Connecticut without Joe's help.
