Howard Dean: Clinton & Obama should "make some kind of an arrangement" prior to Denver
Transcript of Dean Interview on NY1’s “Inside City Hall”

In a Super Tuesday interview on “Inside City Hall,” Democratic Chairman Howard Dean said he doesn’t want the Clinton-Obama race continuing into the party’s convention in Denver, saying the candidates should “make some kind of an arrangement” if neither has enough delegates to win the nomination.

Speaking to political anchor Dominic Carter before Tuesday’s results were known, Dean predicted the Democrats would “have a nominee sometime in the middle of March or April.”

Here is a transcript of Dean’s remarks: “The idea that we can afford to have a big fight at the convention and then win the race in the next eight weeks, I think, is not a good scenario. So, after the primaries are over, the last primary is June 8th in Puerto Rico - Puerto Rico I think, there may be another state with there - and after that if we don’t have a nominee, I think we will have a nominee sometime in the middle of March or April. But if we don’t, then we’re going to have to get the candidates together and make some kind of an arrangement. Because I don’t think we can afford to have a brokered convention, that would not be good news for either party.”

1. We'll see if all these politicians can put their personal ambitions
aside and do what's best for the Party and, more importantly, the Country. I hope they can but I'm not convinced they will.

4. If you change the rules, one side or the other will cry foul.
Those who went into this race with a clear understanding of the existing rules
should abide by them, and that includes Howard Dean.

Just my observation.

2. Now that is just advocating for conniving outside the democratic process...
This system of caucuses and primaries IS the process that the DNC has sponsored. I say let it run its course. It's still a long long way to the convention.

3. I have to disagree
I'd like them to fight it out in FRONT of all of us...that way NO dirty deals can be made. Let's see if the superdelegates bow to the will of the people or political favors. This is democracy at work...it would go a long way in educating the public.

5. Dean is right. If this drags out until August, our nominee will be at a huge
disadvantage to the R's. We need someone to emerge by the end of March to mid April.

6. The candidate the people choose lets see if the democratic process works
and if the candidate that doesn't have the support of the majority of the people should step aside for the good of the party and the country.

7. How about HRC is prez until 2010, Obama from 2010 to 2012
and then we do an online survey to see who runs in 2012.

(I don't see this being worked out by an "arrangement.")
