58,000 New NJ Democrats

An analysis of NJ primary voters showed that at least 58,000, and possibly many more, switched their registration from "unaffiliated" to Democratic for Tuesday's vote. At least two North Jersey counties had more than 100% participation based upon the Democratic registration totals prior to primary day. Officials said some voters requested the form to switch back to unaffiliated upon completing their vote.

These are unprecedented statistics.

I think it is reasonable to say that the vast majority of these voters went for Obama, demonstrating his ability to build a new coalition of support for the GE. I seriously doubt that Clinton is attracting unaffiliated voters in any great number.

It is true that Clinton won in most every area of New Jersey but her win was expected to be by a huge margin.

There was a column in todays Record crowing about how the Democratic machine came through for Clinton and woe to those elected officials who supported Obama as they shouldn't expect their phone calls to be returned by a Clinton administration. I wonder if the writer is perhaps missing something in his analysis.

4. It's great news about the switched registration

However, we don't know who those new Democratic voters voted for. It's "reasonable" to say that some, maybe a decent percentage, went for Obama, but it's pure speculation to say the "vast majority" did.

However, it's good news for the Democratic Party as a whole!

yup like I have been trying to tell everyone especially in the red states that went to Obama...."A RED STATE WIN IN THE PRIMARY DOEN NOT MEAN A WIN IN THE GENERAL ELECTION"

they repukes want Obama because he will be easy to defeat in the GE.... RED STATE AMERICA will not vote for Obama...period.

they came out to vote for him to mes with our elections and will not be there in November.
