Has Romney Dropping Out Now Been The Plan All Along?.......
We all know that the Repugs will get beat and get beat big in Nov '08. Rather than have their best hope get knocked out and be labeled a loser - they effectively get him to bow out now to prepare for 2012.

Are they putting up John McCain to take one for the party in order to set up Mitt for a run in 2012? Rush, Hannity, Coulter & Ingram will have 4 years to rail on the Dem administration HRC or BO - rallying the Repug/Conservative troops for a rousing reuniting of the party under Romney.

Do you think the conservative radio talk show hosts were in on this?

Did you hear the crowd noise at this CPAC meeting respond to Romney?

Just a thought.

2. Mittens is really, really power-hungry
I doubt he'd drop out unless there was absolutely no way he could win.

4. Romney was not their best choice
Their voters will NOT vote for a Mormon. Plain and simple.
That is WHY they are trying so hard to make the Muslim thing stick on Obama.
THEIR best choice is McCain--but to be clear, I would take Romney easily. We can beat him.
I'm not so convinced we can beat McCain.

I believe that the last thing they want is to lose the Executive right now
They seem to be scrambling. If we wind up with a super majority, we'll get to control the Supreme Court for generations to come.

I don't think they really know what to do at this point. Yes, they'll try to manage some sort of strategy. But they're behind the 8-ball.

My 2 cents.

18. Actually about the Supreme Court...
Even if we have a 2 term democratic president, the only one likely to retire is Stevens. Scalia no, Alito (puke-definitely not), Roberts (puke-50 more years), Kennedy (young enough to hang on 8 more years), Thomas (puke again-uh no-another 35 years).

The only ones that could retire are Stevens, Ginsburg, Buyer or Souter:(. Our judges.:(

This election is only about preventing a fascist super majority, not getting a democratic progressive liberal majority.

19. I figure that the new Supremes would be young
So that buys lots of time. If we can keep the Executive for more than 8 years, at least one of the right wing judges could leave during that time.

I know - hope springs eternal and I have lots of hope for the SCOTUS if we get hold of the White House. :hi:

6. I cant see this being planned since he was using his own money
If he had gone through the normal campaign finance route it might be a possibility, but no one spends well over $18 million of their own money to be devious.

8. Can't Romney Look At It As An Investment In His Future?.......
certainly 2008 dollars will be cheaper than 2012 dollars.

7. Yes, this whole GOP race is a focus group only to see what works. The real candidates are waiting
in the wings. Look for J Roberts or Lynne Cheney.

17. We knew McCain was the choice when he KISSED Bush in 2004.
When Bush was running for re-election in 2004 he needed the support of John McCain. I'm sure a deal was made and John got up on stage for the whole world to see and hugged and kissed George..Yech! The deal was sealed right then and there. McCain would get the full backing of those "in charge" as long as he appeared to be a viable candidate. Meaning no "Obama" type Republican blowing everyone else into the wind. To me, this was the way it was supposed to be. I think everything on both sides are still going according to Karl Rove's plans. Maybe more so than Karl thought. heh The Democratic voters might be splintered into pieces with one side inevitably crying foul when the other wins or is given by the superdelegates, the nomination. This is all going pretty good for Karl, even though his party is fighting over not liking McCain. Whew!!

Very interesting.
