This is one of my favorite election years ever.
Except for the occasional outbreaks of Very Ugly, I can't remember a more exciting contest since McGovern ran and that was so long ago, many of you guys weren't even born yet. :)

The thing that I'm enjoying most is seeing two constituencies that have so long had to shout from the sidelines move to the very center of the race. I never thought I'd see it in my lifetime. It's amazing.

(Oh -- I'm also liking that the Republicans are in a total meltdown. That's always nice!)

What are you liking about this contest?

3. "exciting" isn't a word that comes up when I think of this election...
"clusterfuck" is a more appropriate word. Abject disappointment in the choices available is another.

of it.

It's interesting to see this country have this conversation. Maybe that's a better way to put it.

11. The only thing I can think of about this coming election is this...
Whether its a Democrat or a Republican that wins, we're fucked. The only difference is that the Democrat would give us the courtesy of a reach around, and that is the only reason I'm voting for them.

14. It's going to take a long time to recover from having the Thuggery
in power for so many years and from the Democrats moving so far to the right. That's can't be corrected in one cycle, imho. I hope I don't have to curse out loud so often after this election. My neighbors probably have a "Beth's foul mouth" drinking game by now.

20. Heh, someone asked me what I was going to do in November...
A few days ago, because I said I didn't like either Obama or Hillary. I said I will do what I always do, vote for the Democrat, and then bitch about it later. To be honest, I'm sick of this shit. I don't even LIKE the Democratic party, I vote against the Republicans. Its been that way since I was old enough to vote in 1996. Its been 12 years since then, and I'm even more despondent over our election system than I was back then.

22. Maybe you could feel good about this: there are MANY more eyes
on our elections than there were in 2004, let alone 2000. If civilians like me are taking the trouble to call the MI Elections Department because Olbermann mentioned a voting machine "programming error" we're in a much better position to catch bs and to make a big fat beautiful noise about it.

It's true that the Thuggery have been setting traps for us all over. But, it's equally true that we have their number and that they will be called on it as loudly as possible. The days of them stealing elections via a compliant media and an ignorant public are O.V.E.R.

But, despite the inertia, we will turn this buggy around. It won't be fast enough for me but it does seem to be happening.

32. I don't know if its turning around at all...
Given not only the two frontrunners in the primary race, but just the general tenor and positions both in the nation and within the Democratic party. To be honest, I've always felt like a foreigner in the nation I was born in, but I guess that happens when you live in an area of the country so whacked out that the only presidential candidate billboard you see is a Ron Paul one. Yeah, he actually has one around here.

Sorry for the cynicism.

34. Hear hear!
Couldn't agree more.

This election is a huge disappointment. We have two candidates who are sliming each other and polarizing the voters in our party, and a front runner on the Repub side who equates "war" with a hefty dose of Viagra.

I am beyond sick of this crap. Clusterf--- indeed.

12. no, sorry
Reading this board the past few months has just about killed my passion for political discourse, at least US-style. I'm becoming a Canadian citizen this year and this was going to be (by my choice) the last GE I was going to vote in, so I'd much rather concentrate on my local politics than this.

in disgust, sometimes disgust with me.

But, this race really is making history and that is quite an achievement after eight years of an illegitimate president and more years of Republicans driving this country into the dirt with their irresponsibility and grotesque hypocrisy.

But, I do hear you. My own activism has been on hold since early November because I reached the very outer limits of what I could accept. Anything that got done after that is mystery to me, anyway.

That's extraordinary! I'm so used to our primary not really meaning much. We always vote last (except for Hawaii, that is). Hell, I voted for Carter after the race had been called for Reagun.

Usually, my primary vote doesn't mean anything. But since the race is so close, and my state moved its primary up to super tuesday, I got a say in the nominating process.

42. They are all going to endorse Hillary if McCain gets the nod
Rush, Glen Beck and Coultergeist have all made this claim.

If we as Dems could pull our heads out of our self-righteous asses and get behind an either Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama ticket we could take this election in a landslide. We just need to get everyone together. However after posting this suggestion on DU I got exactly one reply and that was from a Hillary supporter who claimed that Obama's campaign was dead in the water and he was just too mean to poor Hillary for her to even consider him as her running mate. *Sigh* Business as usual.

Hiya kiddo. The road has been keeping me busy and off DU but it's nice to see you(so to speak). I got my schedule for next year and we are playing up in your neck of the woods in June(I believe it's Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View). If you want to hang backstage with Walldude send me a PM and I'll hook you up with tickets and passes. Provided you can deal with country music..
