Why would Gore endorse Hillary after how the Clinton's screwed him out of winning the presidency in 2000??

a post early today about Gore saying that she would be the best candidate to promote his environmental issues. But there was no mention of an endorsement.
I've yet to be effected by any endorsement one way or the other.

I heard Richardson say on NPR yesterday that he will NOT endorse either of them. He didn't endorse before NM. He's not going to now. And Gore won't endorse either. And can your absurd, I wish they wouldn't. You wouldn't be writing such absurdity unless you wished that they would.

Will Gore Endorse Obama?
By Steve Clemons, Huffington Post. Posted February 7, 2008.
It is a rumor apparently spreading like wildfire through the Clinton campaign.
A well-placed spouse of a Clinton campaign insider just told me that a rumor is spreading like wild fire that Al Gore is going to endorse Barack Obama.
My source emphasizes that this is rumor and may just be paranoia and hyperventilation of the campaign, but it's important to know that this rumor is out there. Another source of mine inside Obamaland has told me that they have been working very hard to secure Gore's public support and trying numerous avenues to "encourage" him.
Frankly, I'm surprised that Gore would do this now -- despite his clear disaffection for the Clintons. He is the undisputed king of the climate change franchise now, but even kingdoms can be assaulted, undermined, outfoxed, circumvented, ridiculed, and starved.
If Hillary Clinton wins this tight race -- which she may still do -- then Gore is gambling with his own status as a climate-change first-and-only transcendant politician.
It will be interesting to see what happens, and of course if Barack Obama wins the primary and then the presidency, Al Gore will get significant credit. The problem is that that can work the other way too.

32. I really doubt Gore will endorse Clinton, even after the primaries. |
|
Gore's big thing today is climate change, and it's been well known for years that there was a running disagreement between Gore and the Clinton's on how Kyoto was handled.
From an environmental standpoint on CO2 emissions, both Clinton and Obama have virtually identical proposals...the primary difference is that Clinton wants to give the carbon credits to industry so they can trade and profit from pollution, while Obama wants to auction carbon credits off to prevent ANY corporations from profiting from their emissions. Gore has never taken a position on that detail either way, so the two candidates are equals when it comes to global warming.
The difference, and the reason that I doubt he will endorse Clinton, is that Obama is promising $150 billion for alternative energy research, while Clinton simply promises $50 billion...mostly for CO2 emitting biofuel production. Obama also wants to create a $10 billion a year fund to support companies and individuals experimenting and researching in new power production technologies. He's also the only candidate that has brought up an outright ban on traditional coal power plants. From the perspective of an environmental campaigner, these make Obama's environmental proposals far superior to Clintons (which focus primarily on localized emissions and chemical pollution). Environmentalists would immediately attack Al Gore if he were to endorse a candidate with a weaker set of environmental proposals, which would undermine his legitimacy. Most people in the environmental movement would view it as placing politics above the environment, a situation no environmental leader wants to find himself in.
Honestly, I doubt we'll ever get an endorsement out of him at all. Gore has already stated that his new cause transcends politics, and he will have to work with the new president no matter WHO wins the GE this fall. Gore is too smart to potentially undermine his cause by siding with a politician who may not win. Even McCain supports the Kyoto protocol at this point, so Gore will not be quick to turn the man into his opponent when doing so doesn't benefit the issue he champions.
