Clinton's strategy of courting the rescuer vote, how it works and what it means
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 09:11 PM by usregimechange
Basic psychology teaches us that people often play the role of vicitm in order to cope with anxiety, conflict, or to get what they want in a manipulative way.

The following roles are played:

The person who is treated as, or accepts the role of, a victim
The person who (is perceived to) pressure, coerce or persecutes the victim, and
The rescuer, who intervenes out of an ostensible wish to help the situation or the underdog.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karpman_drama_triangle

If the Clinton campaign can appear to be picked on and "victimized," as it plays the victim role it can entice voters who seek to rescue (a role somewhat more likely to be played by females, due to our culture's structuralized sexism and the socialization that imprints it on the individual). This is not to say that all women vote for Clinton because of this but, if this theory is correct, many voters could and I believe are being enticed into the drauma triangle. In dysfunctional families, rescuers allign with the victim to form a coalition against the perceived "bad" person or perpetrator.

Much has been said in recent years to bring to light the ways in which political strategists have harnessed the power of social and cognitive psychology. It is a weapon that I assure you is being used on the masses, much without their awareness.

How do you stay out of the drauma triangle in a family or otherwise? Simply by not playing. You refuse to allow the manipulations to work. So Mrs. Clinton if you feel victimized, your a big girl. Talk to and cope with the bad people yourself.

also, my wife literally dislikes Hillary as in she can't even stand the woman's voice. Nonetheless, she still has an instinct to protect Clinton if she sees too much "piling" on in the media or looking over my shoulder here at DU. If I "go negative" on Clinton and take her to task on her record (i.e. her vote on cluster bombs), if my wife is there she urges me to soften my words.

3. Oh please
Obama invented this.

Who had the fundraiser this fall based on his hillary attacks attacks attacks website.

He was actually asking for money based on Hillary 'attacking' him.

7. I hope it wasn't a partisan attack, just some thoughts I have had.
and I hope I am wrong about all of this because these tendencies are very difficult to get families to stop doing little alone an entire country!

11. I am concerned that it will have people voting with their emotions and not their minds
bad for us all no matter who is using it.

debate issues and weigh all evidence.

What we all really do is pick the evidence that supports our already accepted bias.

That is how humans operate.

Including me.

It's the rare occasion someone changes their minds on empirical evidence.

What usually changes minds is NOT words or an intellectual argument. It's the use of a symbol or something that speaks to us subconsciously.

18. Playing the victim is Hillary's Go To Move, and she uses it on women primarily
She plays the Poor Me card, every time, and the implicit message is "girls, the mean boys are being mean to me."

She can fool some of the women some of the time, but she can't fool all the women all the time.

19. "Drauma" ??? (Clearly not a typo, you used it twice.)
Were you thinking, "Drama, trauma; trauma, drama. Not sure which word I want ... let's split the difference and go with 'drauma.'"

Nice vocabulary triangulation there! :hi:
