The superdelegates can do whatever the hell they want to do
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 11:50 AM by ruggerson
Those are the rules. Both candidates went into this knowing those are the rules.

If Obama gets the nomination, despite being edged out by Clinton in pledged delegates, all that means is that his campaign was able to convince more superdelegates that he is the better candidate.

The same holds true in reverse.

There is nothing in the rules that mandate the superdelegates have to do anything other than vote their conscience.

Whining about them is counter productive.

2. Whining about anything way in advance is
just silly. I'm sure it will unfold the way it should. People love to anticipate disaster,
don't they? ;-)

4. Says the Hillary supporter
I'm guessing you also want the Dems to seat the FL and MI delegations... for the good of the party. :eyes:

7. No
actually in this thread:http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4467152&mesg_id=4467152

I say exactly the opposite.

I won't hold my breath waiting for you to acknowledge error.

And since when does my support of Hillary Clinton invalidate an observation?

12. Good. At least that's a consistent position
However, the superdelegates are not the rules the voters agreed to. Yeah, we all could have read up on how they work, etc, etc, etc, but using them to pick the nominee will rip this party apart and likely put McCain in the White House.

The Clintons' message has always been one of "me first, screw the party" and often "me first , screw the country". Pushing for a superdelegate decision AND pushing to seat the FL and MI delegates smacks of the Brooks Bros Riot in 2000.

5. I get the feeling a lot of people here have no idea
how the party works. Or doesn't work, as the case may be. Everything seems to be a BIG SHOCK!!!!

14. Yes, most regular voters assume the Democratic party is, well, DEMOCRATIC
It doesn't matter what they should have known -- using superdelegates to overturn a popular decision will look like Bush v Gore to the rank-and-file Dems. It will be a disaster for the party.

6. People are worried that the Superdelegates will be getting
Ambassadorships out of this.

That would be ugly.

13. I agree and Obama needs to STFU.
One thing I learned from the 2000 election is the rules set up prior to the election must be followed for the election to be valid. The super delegates can vote for the candidate of their choice. If Obama wants their vote he should lobby them directly, not through the media by trying to incite a revolt within the party. This is just another rookie mistake showing he is not ready for prime-time.
