Do you think that the cult wars of 2008 were brought here by republicans?
Would a Clinton supporter swift boat a democrat? Would a good democrat label a Hillary supporter a Hillite? Would a mindful and conscientious democrat stoop to such tactics?
I don't know, I've heard of these things before but they were orchestrated by the likes of Coulter Hannity and Limbaugh. Talking heads, spinning and spewing hate filled diatribes bent on the destruction of the opposition.
You meanies :nuke: should look into getting a grip and you republicans need to try harder to fit in here, you're all transparent!
I will take ANY democrat over the pitiful excuse for a candidate named McCain.
Thank you for your attention and have a nice day.

1. The "cult" label became a way for Hillary's camp, the Repubs and the media |

to attack Obama's supporters and make them feel stupid. If you don't have much on the man himself, you have to insult and ridicule the people who would vote for him, to make them feel suddenly silly and not want to belong to a "cult".
edit to say--they did this with Howard Dean supporters too.

I'm leaning toward Obama. I've never been a Hillary supporter but I will vote for her if she's the nominee.
I like so many people on this board on both sides, so it feels bad for people to try and deliberately hurt each other.

3. It is unfortunate--but when you have an opponent who is as popular |
|
as Obama, you have to pull a "Rove", which means hitting your opponent's strength. Obama's strength is the excitement and interest around his candidacy--turn this popularity into something "weird", pathological, or just out of the mainstream, and the politics-as-usual cynics win again.

and i can say that the attempts by either camp to rip apart the candidate has no bearing on my decision process. i value DU for the hard data that's often (though not so much lately) posted.
while i can hold out hope that everyone will eventually close ranks, i can see the potential for the schism to grow and undermine efforts to take back the white house in november.
at that point, accusations of voter fraud and swiftboat tactics by the republicans will truly ring hollow.
i can't think of a better resource for republican opposition research than DU lately.
