Clinton draws in crowd at UM, 200 turned away at the door

Saturday, February 09, 2008 - Bangor Daily News

{snip}

More than 2,000 people showed up to hear Clinton speak, but about 200 had to be turned away because the building quickly reached the capacity allowed under state fire codes.

Those who were turned away at the door did get a chance at least to see Clinton.

After speaking to the crowd at the recreation center, the senator made a stop across the road at Hilltop Dining Commons. People who were turned away from the main event were offered the opportunity to gather there for free coffee and a warm place to wait after hearing there was a chance that Clinton might make a detour there on her way to her next scheduled event in Lewiston.

1. I saw her speak on CNN
She looks great, she has bounced back. I am sure Hillary is really grateful of all the supports and donation we gave her.

4. Crowds
Kinda of a double standed. When Obama gets crowds people Ignore It(I am mostly talking about the media and not board members) but when she gets a crowd It Is suspose to be a sign of good news.
To be fair Maine Is probally her best chance this week for a win.

19. Uncalled for,,
I support Obama, but why attack something like this? It looks like they are doing well, having fun, so leave them be.

8. I hope the Maine Democratic Party realizes that whatever their projects for turnout tomorrow are
they will probably end up being waaayyy too low. They need to have these in LARGE venues or else many more individual sites.

If she doesn't win it, she'll come very close. And that certainly is a good crowd.

24. Then get ye to intrade.com and make yourself
some serious money. The odds on her are going down fast. A $400 bet will win you $600 when she is, as you say, undoubtedly nominated.

25. Maine is an interesting state
It's sort of independent minded which fares well for Obama (after all Maine is the only northeastern state with two republican senators). The republicans in the state are relatively moderate.

Democrats have carried the state in the last several general elections and it looks like it's trending to the left.

However, the state is obviously open to electing women for statewide office. So I think Hillary will do well here. And that looks like an impressive crowd in the photo.
