We do NOT need a limit on how many threads one can post, We need To Cut Down on the DUers that Spam.
The Overwhelming Majority of DUers post informative news-worthy threads. I myself post more than three threads per day, but they mostly heads up things telling people to check something out online or TV, or I post newsworthy information such as endorsements. And today, I posted threads letting people know who won and such. I definitely had more than 3 threads and probably more than five. The problem really only is with a few DUers that post every single thought that comes to mind, and most of the time, they are either flame bait, or just down right annoying. I dont think a thread limit is needed for everyone here, just for us to keep an eye on those who clearly abuse DU when it comes to posting threads.

And we ALL know who these DUers are.

3. You should learn to read. I said I post more than three threads.

16. My other two threads on page 1 mention Huckabee winning LA, and asking for help with an Obama Rally.

20. Yes, but how many others posted that? I'm seeing similar posts as far back as page 3.
Making peoples posts *count* keeps people from posting the same garbage over and over again. You are not a perfect example of this, I will admit, but that doesn't mean you're immune from posting spam, it's spam when there is a lot of the same stuff. Certainly when someone says something "offensive" on the news channels dozens of people rush to post. But if people valued their ability to make a topic, they would wait a bit, see someone who felt it was worth the "cost" and would join in that discussion.

22. Actually, I think I was the first one to post that Huckabee won LA.
I saw it on Fox, and I posted it. And my question about an Obama Rally was a personal question abotu what time people recommend getting to a Rally in order to def get a seat.

24. The rally question could've been posted in GD.
The Huckabee win wouldn't have been a priority for you if your votes counted.

4. That may be so,
but I have yet to see any one of those spammers made to stop. Murkin posts a smear thread once every 4 minutes and is still going strong.. so are many others. I agree with you, but I don't see a viable alternative I guess.

8. It's too tough to ask for mods to distinguish between
those spammers and people posting lots of good content.

The global post limit is a way to cut down on the posts in an automated way.

A good feature here would be to save drafts. That way you could compile a number of different posts throughout the day into three or four post.

18. Yeah, but they'll be new people popping up
doing the same thing.

And it's too difficult to set up a standard for what constitutes good content. Some places like Daily Kos say you've got to have 3 paragraphs. That probably wouldn't work here.

6. I hate how the Admins are doing patch work.
That's what this thread limit is.

Patching up the problems with B.S. stuff like this.

How bout just tombstoning the spammers?

Some posters like ProSense for example post a lot of threads a day that are with substance and good for discussion and debate. They shouldn't be limited because of this lame rule.

21. My point exactly
This question of thread limits is for one poster, and we all know who it is.

9. Why is there an alcohol rehab ad at the botttom of your post?
JUST KIDDING!
We can't anoint someone or some group to decide who is right and who is wrong. If we have a problem that we can not solve with social pressure, than we may need a rule that the majority agree with.

12. Under normal circumstances I would agree...
...but the Admins hands have been forced by the near implosion of the forum caused by a few flamebait/spammers/automated bots throwing up such a huge volume of awful material that they HAD to do something.

And as they're not getting paid enough to super-babysit every post on this forum, using a fine-toothed comb, this idea is at the very least, a good start to lancing the boil that is these clowns.

Understand your sentiment...but circumstances have necessitated this.

Best,
LM

23. I would hope that there would be an IP check in the enhancement...
...enabling the mods to check multiple uses of the same IP...and if said multiple user is obviously posting spam and trashing the board, or worse-sockpuppeting, it could be sussed out and they could be dealt with.

17. I think it'd be great if somehow the mods could...
...research how many times someone launches a thread, and then fails to participate in his/her own thread. I think that's the biggest problem. There's a certain segment of the population here that likes to post the bait, then refuses to engage the discussion. Instead, they choose to launch a new thread. Those folks should be shot. Or at least spanked :hi:

25. I'm new, but I favor the thread limit, if for no other reason than that posters
might be more serious about checking for duplicate threads before starting another on the same topic.

They might think twice about using one of their limited number if the topic is already up.

But, that's not the only reason.
