I'm a Democrat and certainly not a hippie. I've got short hair, never did drugs, and have a good job. I've got a hot wife and a kid on the way. I believe in Jesus, work, and shaving. We differ in that I believe that George Bush can go fuck himself.
I/we have no control of your son. He's a big boy and he makes his own decisions. Maybe Obama inspires him, maybe Obama shows leadership that the Republicans haven't. Maybe your kid believes in womans rights, human rights, and agrees with the founding fathers that torture is illegal. Maybe your kid loves the flag as much as I do, but believes in the 1st amendment. Maybe your kid believes in Jesus, and the constitution. There's a number of reasons why your kid supports Obama, and let's not even get into how bad the republican candidates are. Your fellow republicans don't want to support McCain.
If you did a good job raising your son, he'll continue to support the best candidate. At some point that might be a republican again, but for now Obama is the best. And honestly, you voted for Bush. The outcome of the Bush presidency has proved you wrong. So you've lost credibility to tell your son who to vote for.
Justin is a big boy now and he's making his own decisions. We don't have any control over him. You can still be a strong family if you realize that politics has nothing to do with it. Also, think about why your son supports Obama. Maybe there is something you can learn from your son. I hope to see you posting as a Democratic dad soon.
