Is it wrong to like and root for Huckabee?

I hate the man's beliefs or his Christianizing speeches, but I do love the fact that he must be pissing off McCain, as well as fracturing the Republican party. I also find it endearing when he says, "I've got nothing else to do" when asked why he doesn't drop out. Every primary or caucus that he wins brings a smile to my face. Is that wrong?

1. Ideally, Huckabee won't leave the race until he's crippled McCain's

chances in the general, and then it would be great for Huckabee to stomp off mad, boycott the convention in Minneapolis, and urge fundie nutbags coast to coast to sit this one out.

He sounds alot like John Edwards when he talks about how he wants to hlep the Walmart crowd over the Wall Street crowd. I think he has some solutions that are totally opposite, such as his Fair Tax thing. I have a hard time supporting someone who I think will not respect the seperation of church and state. Sure, I think he's a likable guy, probably the most likable Republican.

16. Well... if I had to be locked in a room for 24 hours and had to choose...

...between him and some of the Hillary supporters on this forum I'd choose him in a heartbeat. Huckabee would make a shitty President, and is definitely a Republican, but I do think he has some genuine compassion for people... in his own twisted sort of way. Actually, to be honest, I think he might actually care for individual human beings more than Hillary.

He has the southern charm thing going for him. Bill Clinton used to have it. It's a disarming personality. You can go into a room hating the mans guts, but he'd smile at you, and laugh - treat you really nice - and then before you know it you find out you aren't angry at him anymore. He can make you feel like you matter, as a person. You can speak to him about something and he can make you believe that he cares about that issue sincerely. It's a rare gift. To bad it was wasted on a Republican.

If the Republicans could have taken the Huckster's personality, crossed it with John McCain's POW status, give him a term as Governor of a state, a few years in the senate with a moderately conservative voting record, without McCain's maverick status... you'd have a candidate that would be hard if not impossible to beat.

If Huck drops out, McCain will be a non-story, no coverage, until after the convention. They should keep debating, getting the free coverage, until the convention.

McCain needs to stay on camera, or be forgotten.

McCain has his work cut out for him with regard to patching things up with conservatives.

The last thing McCain needs is more division on the Repub side. That's why one his campaign aides was quoted as saying something like, "Huckabee has a good sense of humor, but he gets less funny every day." In other words, they're getting tired of him. They want this wrapped up so they can start working on repairing McCain's reputation among the conservative base. THAT will keep them in the news, and the news will be no better or worse than it is with Huckabee out there.

he was on MTP this morning talking about one time in college he fried up a squirrel in an old school popcorn popper. I'd never vote for him, but he just seems like the result of his cultural upbringing i.e. a good person with no brains and no sense of why other people disagree with him.

he's probably the most likable, and the most human, of all the GOP candidates this year. Plus he's a bass player, so he can't be half bad.

I still wouldnt' vote for him, though, unless his opponent was Francisco Franco.
