Ralph Nader, the attorney and activist who actively campaigned for the presidency in 2000 and 2004, said he will soon decide whether to launch another presidential bid.

"We have an exploratory committee. Within a month, we'll decide one way or another," Nader said before his appearance at the first Environmental Film Festival, held at the Byrd Theater in Carytown. The two-day festival, designed to raise awareness about such issues as overpopulation, pollution, corporate profiteering and open-space destruction, ends today. Nader filed paperwork last month with the Federal Election Commission and launched a new Web site, NaderExplore08.org.

What would drive Nader into the election?

"Enough volunteers, enough funds and enough staff," he said. "That's what an exploratory committee is for, to test the water."
