10. Got More Numbers Folks
Clinton takes Rumford 52 to 37

Clinton takes Dixfield 16 to 14

Clinton takes Mexico 27 16

Clinton takes Byron 1 to 0

Obama takes Hanover 6 to 2

Obama takes Gardiner 129 47 with 2 uncommitted

Clinton takes Old Orchard Beach 134 to 128

I'm betting some of those are in terms of delegates, and not votes.

40. Look at where they are winning
Obama has won some large, suburban communities. That means he could pick up once we hear from South Portland, Yarmouth, Falmouth, Kennebunk, and Kittery.

I also haven't seen anything from the college towns yet.

I'm assuming Obama is taking more Southern Maine and Clinton the backwoods (Mexico, Rumford, etc.). Could be wrong, though.

13. Obama 556 to Clinton 217
http://news.mainetoday.com/updates/022070.html

CAPE ELIZABETH — Sen. Barack Obama cruised to an easy win in the Cape Elizabeth caucus on Saturday, defeating Sen. Hillary Clinton by a vote of 72 to 28 percent.

More than 680 people turned out to participate in the caucus, more than double the number of those that showed up in 2004, according to Jamie Wagner, the chairman of the Cape Elizabeth Democratic Committee.

Obama won by a final tally of 556 to 217. That total includes the 94 Democrats who voted absentee.

60. CNN could just be way behind TurnMaineBlue in terms of results reported --
or CNN could actually be ahead. It depends on how TurnMaineBlue is getting their results. It could be that CNN is holding back some pro-Obama results hoping that Clinton will catch up in other locations.

If there is a difference by the time all precincts report (600+) then I'll pick up a torch.

On the good side for my guy, he appears to be piling up some big numbers in the heavily populated bedroom towns like York and Cape Elizabeth; that could mean a strong showing in much of greater Portland.

We also haven't seen orono yet, and i suspect Obama will win there easily.

48. Yarmouth 3-1 Obama big crouds in Portland
The Illinois senator also won in Yarmouth, defeating Clinton by a three-to-one margin. The final vote there was 484-139, Obama.

Democratic caucus-goers in Portland are waiting in long lines at Portland High School while a team of 30 registrars works to herd them into the event.

Organizers have assured the hundreds still waiting outside the high school that anyone in line by 4 p.m. will be admitted to the caucus. Voters waited in lines that stretched from the school’s entrance on Cumberland Avenue to Congress Street as recently as 2:30 p.m.

4 - Obama

2 - Clinton

143. Any other Mainers hanging around here?
Do you all see a sort of pattern--Clinton more backwoods/upstate, Obama more SoME? I know Gorham, Scarborough, Cape, York, the Kennebunks, etc. all went for Obama, while the Clinton wins have all been Mexico, etc, with the exception of Wells (SoME but Clinton). Interesting.

It depends on where in southern/western Maine. Out near the NH border is less populated; closer to L/A or south is more populated.

167. It's interesting--not too hard to understand as far as population goes.
Southern Maine and the coast are well-populated; the north and west are less so. There are a few pockets of population north (Bangor/Orono, Houlton/Presque Isle, etc.), but there's a reason why northern Maine tends to be townships rather than actual organized towns.

York, Cumberland counties are most populous; there are good amounts of people in all the coastal ones. Oxford has some people, though less than York or Cumberland, I would say. The monstrosity of "the county" (Aroostook) should be a clear sign that there are generally more trees than people up that way. :D

I was stunned at my caucus. With all the media spin and us being such a little town I was sure it would be closer but no. Overwhelming support for Obama. All our absentees were for Obama, except i for Edwards. A bunch of absentees arrived in Maine too late.

PS Skinner is it time to add Obama to the dictionary.

166. South Portland, Ward 1: (approx) 212 Obama, 85 Clinton (71% Obama)
These figures are the best I can remember. Includes absentee votes. 8 Kucinich supporters went to the Obama side.

Unfortunately I don't recall the state delegate counts... It was a tiring process five hours in length. There were TONS of new Democrats being registered. TONS. They were filed out the door.

178. Obama takes Gardiner, Manchester
http://news.mainetoday.com/updates/022075.html

Those who caucused in Gardiner and Manchester chose Sen. Barack Obama by wide margins today.

Unofficial totals in Gardiner showed 129 for Obama and 47 for Sen. Hillary Clinton.

In Manchester, 79 expressed a preference for Obama and 31 for Clinton.

Democratic Party officials use the totals to divvy up delegates.

Both towns had larger than normal turnout, and Augusta delayed the start of its caucus for about an hour because of long lines of people waiting to register as Democrats. Their results will not be available until later tonight.

Just saw it on local news. They are overwhelmed, it's going to take them a while to get done. Remember, after they vote, they still have to choose delegates.

All the wards vote in the same place, so I would assume they'll all be released at once.
