Do we HAVE to use childish names like "Hillbots" and "Obama cultists" ? |
|
I mean seriously. We're all in the same party, or at least most of us are.
Do any of us want perpetual war? Unless you do, we need everyone on board.
Support your candidate. Be passionate. Be excited. Argue. And even get angry. That's all part of the process. This primary season has been a roller coaster and has been the most exciting by far in many, many years.
But a lot of this sniping is just childish, immature bullshit. And really, this isn't targeted toward most people of either supporter, but a few obnoxious overtly partisan ass holes. Personally I see them more on one side than the other, but I am admittedly biased.

Those are names that have both humor and insight.

This is about the 20th post you've made bitching about the decorum. Why don't you leave, or write admin with your really cool ideas about how to make this place safe for cranky old folks like you?

4. I have never used the expression "Hillbot," and I dislike it when |
|
other Obama people do.
Some people don't even think of this as a primary--more like Fantasy football where anything goes in the comments section and it doesn't matter who gets insulted.

9. I just made the same damn post! LOL! here is my idea.... |
|
Since our mods are considering limiting new threads per day, I think they sould ban the childish name calling too.
I wrote a letter, I suggest we all do the same.

Sorry to be so dense.
I would like for the name calling to be banned too. It adds nothing to discussions and I am for more interested in having a Dem president than in bashing either one of our candidates.

My message:
Winning the general should be the real goal of DUers.
If the nominee is not chosen till late in the game, there won't be much time for uniting Hillary and Obama supporters.
Banning flame-bait names would do a lot to damp down the hard feelings between the 2 groups.
Go Dems!

12. The only one that really bothers me is "Obamababies" |
|
That particular slur is nothing less than reverse ageism, attacking his young supporters on the basis of their age. It would be TOTALLY unacceptable for someone to attach a sexist slur to Hillary's boomer women supporters, like "Hillb---hes" or something similar, and I do not understand why ageist bigotry is allowed on DU.

|
Does anyone know how much more INTERESTING stuff we'd have to discuss if we made an effort to stop the name-calling, the gloating, and the psychodrama?
We could fight until fatigue set in and still be Democrats.

I don't bother opening a thread that is titled with such names, there is not much left worth reading here, and I haven't been here very long but it has gotten worse as the primaries started.
I wonder if some of the posters with these childish name calling are even old enough to vote?????? hmmm

29. The adults are coming back. Clean up has already commenced. |
|
The more intelligent posters are changing the tone - it will take a while, and everyone needs to consider their own behavior. that is what we adults do, right?
The kids will complain. They will say "They started it!" they will say "Only their side does that!"
but really now. We have bigger issues to deal with, and the shouting is a distraction.

32. As I posted in a similar thread, it's hard for me to take those who |
|
call names as being willing to engage in a serious discussion. It's juvenile behavior and not indicative of an adult debate. I will no longer respond to posters who use name calling against our candidates or other posters.
